Crazy Belt

Ive searched and found the few threads about belt squealing but still cant figure this out.

I replaced the serpentine twice (it really doesnt seem like a serpentine given it rides three pulleys on outside diameters) and still I get squealing under load (AC on, in gear, and low revs).

First replacement belt was a Carquest and second is Goodyear Gatorback. The Goodyear runs quieter than the Carquest, but I still can make it squeal. Both belts had to be tightened to well less than play.

Has anybody had an issue like this?

Can a belt be too tight?

My impression is that this belt may actually be undersize (not wide enough).

Thanks!

Mods?
Well, I used the stock 6D changer and upgraded to a pretty nice 5 channel sound system, on budget. Dynamat worked well too, quieted the cabin. I got a few pics if anyone is interested.

seems to be a common problem with many cars...i have to constantly retighten mine. some people have no issues, but a good number have the same problems we do keeping the belts quiet.

How badly were/are they slipping? Are they glazed already? If so tighteneing won;t fix that. With a underdrive pulley - i had to really crank down BOTH belts to stop the squealing!

OEM Belts

I posted in the wrong forum the first time and got a reply there too. Rogue's response makes sense, he said to use OEM belts. I thought of this yesterday and called Oak Tree Mazda for price of $36. So I figured I'd try the Goodyear first as it is only $15. But sometimes you get what you pay for.

The second belt isn't glazed, the first was. I'll tighten both belts (they were both replaced) and if that doesn't help I'll try OEM.

Thanks!

JB

Wish I had a manual transmission.
