.So here is the deal. I just got back from deployment to find out that I need to smog my car.CRAP!!!!!!! Is what I said lol. I know I'm not going to pass the visual so I put back on the stock smic and my intake is carb'd so that's good. But not that I changed my ic, my car is running really rich. It starts fine, but it is not revving past 4k or so. And it is almost dying during shifts or stoping. It dips to almost dying then jumps back up. I went back to the superstock map but I dnt think its working well with the 626 manifold that I have. Can anyone chime in on this. need this smogged within the next week.

Have you tried unplugging the AFC? It's not ideal, but it might let your stock ECU get the fuel trim back where it needs to be.

I have not. I figured id have to try and tune for the 626 IM and the intake and exhaust. Ill try it. Any other ideas

If the car has sat for a bit, you might also need to just take it for a good drive to get the catalytic converters functioning properly again.. They function on the principal of super heating the byproduct of the engine before it leaves the car to minimize pollutants..

When it sits for a period of time, the chemical compounds inside become saturated and require a fair bit of heat to give up that saturation.

It can't take the car for a drive every stop light it dies on me. I drive to go up a hill on my way home. (No way around it) I damn near burned the clutch out. I had to ride the clutch to get it to rev past 2500

There is something Way Wrong with the fuel delivery then... Like an injector is stuck open...

Assuming you don't have any vacuum, boost or other random leaks, I would bet you need to reset the ECU as mentioned above so that you can reset the fuel trims. When I removed the SSAFC from my car and left all the other mods as they were, it would buck like crazy when I hit boost. I reset the ECU by unhooking the negative, then positive battery terminals, touch them together for about 30 seconds and pump the brakes a few times before reconnecting them.

would that even out my afrs? i was told by another friend to take off the ssafc and to put my original mani back on. im going to try adn take it to a shop to have that done monday. I had problems with it last time when i swtiched them. I tried to reset the ecu, i couldnt get the battery connectors off. Ill try it tommorrow

You cant just unplugthe AFC alters some signals from the ECU so it wouldnt work.

how did you wire in the AFC? did you solder all connections? my car act like this once with one of the wires came loose.

I have them spliced. Not soldered. I check that and everything is good. I just got a code P0102 maf low input? Idk. I'm lost

The MAF signal runs through the AFC before it reaches the ECU. The MAF signal is on a 5 volt reference, and it varies between .4 and 4.5 volts on the signal wire. That code means it's too low, i.e. 0 volts. One of your wires is probably loose on the AFC, go and check all your connections.

Ill try that n the morning.... I also threw another code. Bank 1 running too rich.... I wish there were some knkowledgable people in the area to help. Or that vthe msp was more common. Jsu

UPDATE: I cleaned and tested the MAF and sensor. The sensor is only getting a max of 2.45 volts. And when I tried to give it 4.5 volts, it was killing the car. I also removed the ssafc. I hope I'm getting close

2.4 to 2.6 is what mine runs at idle so you should be good there. I had a code 1 time few weeks ago for the opposite, said high voltage. Havent had a problem with it since though. Where are you lookin for the voltage at? Are you probing the wire somewhere or hookin a diagnostic machine up and see what the ecu is reading it.

4.5 is almost maxing out the Maf. If you do that at idle yea it is tricking the ecu into thinking it is getting a butload of air sucked into the engine, which will give the engine almost a full load of fuel and if you are adding that 4.5 at idle it will overload and kill the engine. The msp though is known for running extremely rich if you didnt know already. I have an msp ecu and i dont use it because i dont like how rich it run even like 6lbs of vacuum it just starts dumping fuel. Thats why I run an Mpi Tuner piggyback on my car. You have the ssafc though so you should be able to use that and lean it out a tad bit. Im not familiar with that setup.
