Cpe Xcel Intake Review

For those lazy readers here is a summary:

Pro's: Seems louder then Mazdaspeed intake, as well as one piece and better weld quality. Also now I can DEFINATELY hear the turbo and blow off valve, also isn't loud while just cruzing on highway. After hour of driving engine is hot, but the intake is still cold.

Con's- Makes me want to always drive fast so I can hear it, I now want to spend all my money on Cp-e's stuff, if these are negatives.

Install time: 2 hours, including 30 min. cussing break while dealing with the stock cold air shroud.

For those willing to read:

I live near CP-E so they said that I could come and pick it up as soon as the intakes came back from the powder coater. So this morning I drive over and find their discrete location and immediately I am greeted by one of the owners Josh Adams. He introduces himself and then ask to see what color my ms3 is and then he gives me a tour instead of just giving me my intake and rushing me out. The tour starts with the viewing of the chips they have in production and the assembly area, very cool looking. We then go through the "plant" were he tells me about all of the machines, how the products are made and what research goes into them. While walking through everyone was working hard, but they took their time to introduce temselves and shake my hand. (I was very surpirsed and impressed with that) I also got to see the prototype fmic for the ms6, bov flanges being made and the greatest of all the turboback exhaust for the ms3. He then takes me to their packaging area and packs up my intake to protect it eventhough I said he didn't have too. When I got home I started to install it and I found their directions to be great. The only problem was the old cold air shroud, but they warned me about that. I then took it for a drive and noticed improved power, great turbo noises that are definately louder then the ones in elderly coffee's video, and after an hour of driving the intake was still cool to the touch. Below are some pics and I will try to make a video and post it tonite. James.

Yeah I'm not sure if I want to put my money towards an exhaust and wait or just get the HKS in about a month. Or just wait three months and get a downpipe.

I'm so glad to hear that you're happy with the intake so far!!

Now that we know there's a friendly MS3 owner in our area, we'll have to bug you about beta testing our upcoming products

Thanks SO much for the glowing review of our products and our company James! I hope you continue to enjoy your MS3 and your new intake.

I like my HKS, I know I'm running certain risks by venting, but I just cant help it! It's loud and scares my friends little dog when I come over and rev n purge...

Guess it depends on what you want?

Fear factor or power?

Weeeell, we don't give out free parts for product testing, but we often sell the product at a discounted price and install/dyno the part for free. :D

We're located in Beltsville, Maryland, which is about 45min north of Washington D.C. If you're ever in the area, give us a call and we'll be happy to show you around our facility.

I'm wondering why they use screw drive clamps instead of the better T-bolt clamps.

There is ZERO need for the benefits a T-clamp offers on an non-pressurized INTAKE pipe. If it where the pressure pipes, then I would use T-clamps.
