could we use the Mazda3 2.3L engine?

this might sound like a dumb question, but if I found a salvage mazda3 engine, would it fit in my speed? The engine pushes 160 hp without a turbo. Hmm?

along with a new tranny, axle, ecu, mounts...etc

probably not worth the price.

for the price you could take off your turbo and make your car have 160hp without the turbo, if that'll make it a better engine in your mind for some reason

"the engine WON'T fit in the car... just like any NEW honda motor won't fit in any old honda... the reason is simple... the exhaust and intake manifolds are installed in reverse... not only that, a new tranny, custom mounts, and custom shifter will be needed... the new mazda engines/trannys NEED cable shifters because of the exhaust

there's an old saying.... more bucks than brains
money doesn't solve everything... "anything is possible as long as you have money" is nonsense... will you be able to fit a 454 chevy into a chevy, or any compact car? NO, the engine is bigger than the whole front end of the car!"

"this is completely correct. I have said this since january. I owned a 6 for a while and contiplated the possibilities . There are none."

It wouldn't be much harder to install an SRT-4 motor & tranny in there compared to the Mazda 2.3. Get a front clip from an SRT4 and you're in business if you know what you're doing. That would be a sick machine.

wrong!! you can buy custom mounts for the 00 civics that accept the k-series motors that are in the new si's and crv's. I know becuase I used to have the 02 civic hatch and when i was getting ready to get rid of it thought about just giving the motor to my buddy who has a 00 civic coupe but he did want the trouble of doing the swap himself and didn't want to pay for it. oh yeah, by the way they suck alot of ass.

you'd need a turbo manifold and possibly new motor mounts but that's about it, the tranny should attach to the 2.3L just fine since they're both mazdas

If I'm not mistaken, they are 2 completely different transmissions. So, I don't think they are compatible.

what about a focus motor?
is the ztec stronger than out motors?

For the cost it would take to do something like that you would be better off and pulling your stock engine and tranny and building them up. You may only spend half the money it would take to build up you engine then it would to do that swap.. And you would have one bad ass MSP and would most likely to be faster.

I dont know if it would fit but if you could make it than you would have one different MSP with losts of custom work.

the ztec motor would be terrible for a turbo application, the reason is makes so much more hp than a regular focus engine is an increased compression ratio, i believe it runs at 10.5:1, if you wanna do an engine swap, you need to look for a transverse mount 4cyl that wont tear up our tranny with its torque. if anything i'd look for an old mx6 turbo motor, but that car may be rear wheel drive, so the tranny might not hook up

MX-6 turbos were not RWD...also, they are pushing 190 torque stock and that goes up fast with a few more psi.

Also, if you think that our engines don't make power up high, please, go drive an MX-6 turbo or even non-turbo..it'll make the MSP seem like a freakin Honda engine.

edit: The MX-6 engine was more or less a truck engine, very torquey, but no so very horsepowery:D

The Zetecs do not run a 10.5 compression. Zetecs run a 9.6 compression. The SVT Focus runs a 10.2 compression due to the beef-up process by Ford.

Turbo Tom has made turbo kits that include everything you would need for the Focus....but it is expensive as hell and worth it if you have the cash. Focus-Power

Sorry for thread-jacking :o

The Zetec is fine for turbo. They make and sell a factory turbo Focus RS in Europe, its a beast.

If you have the money you can put anything in the car. I remember seeing a crx with a acura nsx motor in it......in the hatch. Turned the car into a rear engine rear drive car. The new honda motors will fit into the old hondas, not sure why you would want to though since they are a pain in the ass to mod and tune. If you are gonna spend the money and are gonna put a mazda motor in why not go all the way and put in the rx8 motor?
