Corksport FMIC installed with review and pics

Well I picked the kit up from Corksport on Thursday while they were lowering my car on a set of AutoExe springs. I was waiting around and just decided to go ahead and do it. I was told that I am the first person to have this kit on minus the one on Corksports car. So I was pretty pumped about that of course! As far as the install goes it is pretty straight forward. I know a couple MS6 owners have said the install was pretty time consuming and a pain but I found it to be the opposite. The instructions were excellent absolutely no issues there. The only problem I did run into was the damn hose clamps. Some of them IE the two on the IC gave me a headache. Once you get a hang of it no problems! All in all time wise I would say right about 5.5 hrs. This was done in between the hours of 5 and 1030 pm at my apartment with nothing but the basic tools. It was obviously dark out and the only lighting I had was one of those little head mounted LED lights. I would say you need to have some experience with working on cars prior to undertaking this project. But once again the instructions are immaculate!

The quality of the product is hands down top notch work. Fitment is outstanding, no pipes hit anywhere and there is no metal cutting involved. The only item that needs to be cut is the IC cover to clear the pipe. The only tight spot I ran into was the BOV. The Turbosmart BOV is pretty big(probably the biggest) but it still fits. The intercooler is a nice piece! There is no need to cut the front bumper in anyway which was a seller for me!

I did get chance to drive my car this morning after doing another quick check on the pipes. Starts up with absolutely no problems and does not throw any CELs. It is raining here right now so I couldnt get on it in 1st-3rd but I did hop on the freeway for a couple of pulls. Let me tell you this thing pulls hard! It seemed very smooth too! I am running the BOV in VTA because, well, that is the only option for this kit. So far so good no popping or surging. I am thinking about switching to the HKS SSQV soon though. I will give you an update in this thread when it gets dry out.

For all of you "the filter is gonna get wet" people. It wont! It was pouring today....I mean heavy huge rain drops and I saw absolutely no water on the filter or in the ducting. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Overall I give the product a 10/10! Corksport as a business 10/10 quick install on the springs and they were very helpful with any questions I had, pretty cool dudes! The install I give it a 9/10 can be a pain but man is it worth it!

If you want to see any other pictures of anything specific let me know.

You cant run it recirc because there is no fitting that comes off of the turbo inlet pipe you can have one welded on I am sure. I know Doctor D with the MS6 did this so he could run recirc.

looks nice. But unless you plan to track your car in the middle of summer in AZ when its maybe 110F outside, there's absolutely NO REASON to get a FMIC for our car.

I don't make this claim flippantly. I put two different FMIC's on my Subie so I know the advantages.

But Mazda engineers did one helluva job designing the ram intake & plenum chamber to provide a highly efficient air flow/volume through the TMIC placement.

I would recommend the ETS thicker core TMIC with its all-aluminum design.

I've run my 3.25" thick ETS unit on five different track days here in sunny So.Cal during ambient temps upwards of 100F. I've been absolutely amazed each & every time to feel how utterly cool the TMIC is to the touch immediately after pulling into the pits. That's after running 20 minutes non-stop balls-out. The darn TMIC is actually cool to the touch. Fantastic!

Hey, enjoy the uniqueness of having a FMIC. The last thing that I'm saying it that any FMIC is not as effective as the MS3 TMIC placement. I'm only saying its one upgrade that's more "bling" on our particular car.

well for FMIC $989.00 for TMIC3.25 545.00+CAI $300 total=845.00 for few extra dollar you get the FMIC.which one you pic.

Phew good thing im moving to phoenix next year. (flame)

can you provide close up pics of the filter area/tray with the oem ic shround off?

i ask because on the corksport site, it looks to be made of cheesy aluminum foil-like material. i would expect more from corksport, so i am hoping its not.

thanks.

It's wrapped in heat-reflective tape, to repell engine heat on the airbox.

And what's the deal with running ONLY in VTA? Does that mean i have to buy a BOV with this setup, and can't use my stock one?

Seems like running VTA is the source of a lot of people's CEL's and engine problems when they install a BOV.

Ah, I see. Kinda looks cheesy to me though.

And, the kit offers a stock mount option as well as one for the greddy and hks valave

i'm glad to see you got that on there....i spoke 2 ya at the car wash the other day....the Front mount looks very nice hope it performs just as well man.....

looks nice. i think the packaging of this is the best and the innovation with the top mounted filter is really neat. wins some style points, regardless of whether it's all that beneficial or not.

i'd definitely get a nipple welded onto that intake pipe and get that BOV in closed loop. it's just so much easier on the car and your gas mileage and driveability. and being it's still an aftermarket BOV, recirculating (closed loop) won't muffle the BOV sound that much, if you're into that. lol.

i'm in agreeance, except an FMIC might do a bit better in autocross environments with slower speeds. granted an FMIC is still not receiving alot of fast moving air during an autocross, but being more in the open atmosphere of the front bumper, it's exposed to more open air than the TMIC. but in any other situation, the TMIC is more than perfect. definitely props to mazda engineers for this one. plus i love the sleeper effect (bow)

Well for me this is perfect. On the freeway this thing really hauls now! The air induction system is hands down the best idea out there. Mazda had a great idea but Corksport improved on it. BTW it spools up just as quick and remember that this intercooler helps to fight what the stock IC loses as far as boost. I stilll rate this a 10! Wouldnt go with any other product. After I install my MBC tomorrow I will be in the market for a fuel pump.

Nope no CELs. Once I ran the car a few times I havent had any hesitations or backfiring because of the BOV being VTA. Basically Im loving it. I am installing my Greddy TVVC Mini MBC today, 17psi here I come!

goood luck! great buy! i'm looking into it myself... but i want my TBE first!

as you already know...... keep up posted!!(flash)

Really looks great. 2 reasons why I wouldn't buy it at this point, even if I had the money.

1: I can't use the CAI that I have already purchased. I'm not saying that the ram air design is bad, because I really do think it is awesome. It's just that I have already purchased a CAI.

2: Must run VTA. If this is remedied, I'll definitely be considering this for my intercooler upgrade when the time comes.

this is nice, but i dotn like the vta only thing. TXS wins my vote so far(spin), IM just seriously waiting for cobb, sell my current stuff and buy their intake fmic and ap
