Coolant bypass...mod?

LMAO....i can just emagine a foset type knob with "H" on it under the hood.
(rofl)

hey, watch it man. I already have that for my co2 sprayer. It's red and everything.

the coolent runs through there for smog reasons, not to stop the throttle body from freezing.the idea is to expand some os the nitrogen molecules before they go into the intake to as to better atomize the fuel,it won't hurt anything, but it will only help(in horse power) when the car has fully warmed, and is in closed loop.

I'm not making this up,this realy is what it's for.

So, according to your explanation, bypassing the coolant from the TB is good or bad?

good for HP (slightly), bad for emmisions (slightly)

OK, so Blk's chilled water mod should theoretically help a lot...moreso if you have the IM & TB spacers from TurfBurn.

^ cool
never would have thought it.

thats what I said my first time encountering it on a car.

it's been around since 1976,on caborated, and on TBI in one way or another, usually they have a heated manifold for TBI.

but if you are going to due this mod I suggest doing it with a valve, because you will probaly raise your HC levels.

I talked to a guy here at work about the coolant bypass (he owns a SpecV) and he said he has heard of at least one guy on the Vboard who cracked his TB doing this (cold and hot temps maybe?). Of course, its hard to prove that the bypass caused the crack, but just something to think about. Im still going to do the mod anyway. Used TB = not too expensive (as long as pieces of it dont break off and get in the engine).

and if it does break,it gives you a good reason to get a ported TB=)

suscribing for progress.... probally do this next weekend or so because it is cheap and cant really hurt too much plus it barely gets below freezing here

I have cracked the passage between the Iac motor and the coolant passage on one of my throttlebodies. However that throttlebody was extremely thin walled and is what I call alittle too much time on the mill. lol

On my mildly ported throttlebody I have had no problems, nor has other people I did throttlebodies for.

your kidding right. ive had mine bypassed for more than a year and mine has never cracked

I've really noticed some improvements over the last few months.

The only drawback I've found, and this relates to adding a header as well, is the fact that the engine bay cools down really quick when it's cold out. I bought the car in January, and when it was stock, I could come out an hour after it had been sitting in the cold, and there would still be heat and the oil was warm.

Take away the IM and intake as a heat sink, as well as the ceramic in the cat and it stays cold. No complaints.
