Coolant bypass...mod?

I finished mine earlier tonight...I had to take the intake & upper IC pipes out to get at it. Even then, I still look like I got in a fight with a cat as George (EviLMan) puts it.
LMAO..

I took some pictures while I was doing this to help out anyone who hasn't done it yet. When I first looked at it, I had no idea where the hell anything was. I have pictures of the 2 plugged inlets to the TB (my ghetto plug job that will be replaced tomorrow with vacuum caps). For anyone using the 3/8 size hose connector from Home Depot, be aware that the OEM clamps are too small to fit over the connector once it's in. They are the same cheap kind that are on the BPV line & I will be replacing them tomorrow as well with screw clamps. I also drew the path of hose on my picture to give you an idea of where it goes. Finally, whoever said they only got 3 drops of coolant was lucky...I got about 6 ounces. I had let the car cool down for at least 4 hours, so I don't know why it happened. Anyway, I haven't driven it since I finished, so I'll report my findings tomorrow.

Glad I'm not the only one! Lol!

I was coming back tonight after visiting a friend at his house and I was going about 60mph in 5th gear, listening to the turbo spool around 2-3 psi. Then I heard a THHHHUH! All the lights came on instantly (CEL, oil lamp, airbag, etc.) so I turned the engine off (I don't even know if it was still running) and pulled off onto the next side road. I didn't have a flashlight with me so I called my brother and asked him to bring a flashlight and some tools. While I was waiting on him to arrive I fiddled around in the engine bay trying not to burn myself, and find the coolant hoses that I had just connected earlier. They were still intact, so I had no idea what else it was... until I wiggled the intake pipe. Apparently I didn't tighten the hose clamp on the IC to TB pipe and it popped off the TB. I was glad it was only that, and not a coolant leak. But I don't understand why all the lights came on. I assume the engine stalled. But I don't know why it would.
Anyways, if you take off any intake piping make sure it's really good and snug.

Just in case anyone was wondering why they run coolant throught the throttle-body: It is to prevent icing. Not because it is cold outside like in the winter time. Any time air goes from an area of higher pressure to an area of lower pressure, it drops in temperature. If you cruise for extended periods of time without moving the throttle plate, it can actually stick in that position for a few seconds!

We dont have to worry about that because of the massive hot compressed air we get and the crazy under hood temps should keep anything from freezing.

You have to wiggle the hell out of them to get them off, but they should "snap" back into place once you get them on all the way. Of course, you also have to remember the clamps. Glad it wasn't anything serious, although I don't understand why you had all of those lights either. I'm guessing it's because you broke the flow of air from the IC to the intake mani.

the lights popped up because the car died and the key was still turned, like just before you start the car when all the warning lights light up. When my pipe popped off the car just died, wouldnt even run

dude man those coolant lines are a m'fr to take off , any suggestions on taking them off without a hassle?

I don't think this would be a good idea for us New Englanders....I don't know about you guys, but the last Ct. winter turned the state into a nightmarish frozen wasteland. If anything could freeze it would have frozen then!!! Of course now it's hot as a mofo.

So does anyone have any feedback after doing this mod. Can you feel a difference?
I did mine & the car is running great, but my idle didn't change & I can't say that I actually noticed a difference.

Are you sopposed to get a CEL with this mod??? Because the car drives fine but i got a CEL right away.

If the Cel is sopposed to trip i'm going to revert back to stock.

Definitely not...are you sure you didn't disconnect anything you shouldn't have & that you put everything back when you were done?

in my best star-trek Scottie voice, "aye be pulling captain but i cant pull no more!"
seriously ill try again alter this afternoon when it cools down some.
but as far as feeling a difference i did this long ago in my Mustang GT and Lt-1 days and i did feel a little difference, but worth it as it gets hot as hell in S. Florida

That's why I did it...FL is SO DAMN HOT that I'll do anything that can help to cool this car off.

I am going to start driving around without a hood. That's gotta keep things cooler.

The added wind resistance would decrease your gas mileage a lot (especially on the highway) & I doubt you would get very far before being pulled over.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke ;)
