Complaints and Compliments

Well I've had my P5 for a little over 2 1/2 weeks....its been fun, but I also have a few complaints.

Love:
- the handling (very little body roll)
- the interior design and capacity
- the looks
- gas mileage
- red gauges (don't need to put some reverse indiglo gauges to cover up ugly orange like I did the talon)
- the stock rims (for what they are)

Hate:
- gear ratios (4K RPMs in 5th to go 80MPH?!? WTF?)
- transmission is notchy in cold weather until it warms up
- though not stock tires, the tires tend to spin when I don't want them to..I can back out in reverse and hit a patch of ice (5mph) and the tire will start spinning, seems to spin out of driveways a lot too. Did these cars ever win any spin out contests? (first)
- the ride tends to be rather rough at above 70mph..not sure if its the way these cars are or the alignment

So far I'm very satisfied with the ride thus far, just got to see how reliable the vehicle is in the long run. Can't judge it cause I've only driven some 600 miles so far.

fix your shifter issues with a short shifter and some kartboy shifter bushings from www.kartboy.com. I am tall, I got a B&M shifter and heavy momo knob and have kartboy shifter bushings.

not sure how to help with snow and ice, as I am in FL. Lots of guys up there get snow tires tho.

As far as the ride bring rough, maybe it is time for new struts, or the car is lowered or something. the suspension is a little stiff already, which is why you like the handling so much.

Welcome, and enjoy the forum!

Sounds like you need to look at newer tires and an alignment. I had some issues at first, but with some new Kumho Ecsta's and alignments for life from Firestone (my rears were way off), the ride is good as new. Check out a short shifter, if you don't already have one.

you can go that speed here in FL. Do it going to work and back. And I think in Utah, Mormon law has it at 90 MPH, but I might be wrong. :)

Nah car is completely stock, so perhaps it just needs a alignment.

Come ON. Nothing wrong with driving 80. If you do it responsibly. Slow down when you get in traffic, drive defensively, signal, stay in the fast lane.

Others who are driving the speed limit shoukd also do it responsibly, like not riding in the passing lane when they are not passing, use their signals and look for others.

55 is fast enough to kill you yet slow enough to fool you into a false sense of safety.

I drive responsibly, just not always at the speed limit. ;)

80 is more or less the norm on the interstates around here. meh

its not just MSP wheel hop... they (FS-DE powered proteges) all have it.

as far as your problems go paranoidxe-
1. get synthetic gear oil (search the forums for choices/preferences if you don't already have one)
2. b&m or Kartboy short shifter
3. Kartboy bushings (most important piece)
4. alignment

maybe new struts but that would be a last resort in my mind, dependant upon mileage of course...

good luck with it and have fun

Love:
styling
handling (sometimes)
rare

Hate:
engine
transmission
tires
etc....

Actually I have a lot of hates, but no matter what I just love her:) I don't wanna sell it at all.
