Common Sense

This type of thing always happens when a performance car is relatively new. There hasnt been enough time to R&D parts, tunes etc for it to become a no brainer for would-be modders. Granted, IMO there is quite a bit of information available if people just look for it.

Frito, I too came from Subaru where, since 2001 (usmy2002) and since the early nineties in Japan, Europe and Australia the formula ha sbeen basically the same for each of the turbo models. Those years of product development have yielded a wealth of information and aftermarket support for anyone with a turbo Subaru. There is so much support that it is easy to mod and tune a car like that.

The MS3, as far as I know strated in 2007 in the U.S., not sure when the JDM models came out (06?) Thats not that much time to allow for enough R&D to be completed by enough companies to make it a simple enough * choice for most.

The other issue that I dpont like to admit is that the demographic that purchases the MS3 is unique. With the MS3 offering so much performance for the money the door is open for first time drivers and a much younger crowd than those who buy Subarus, Evos among others. The whole ease of availability plays a major role in all the stupid stories you hear on the forums. Is it surprising that Johnny highschooler who's parents bought him a brand new MS3 complains that his motor is making funny sounds after he installs his MBC wrong and overboosts to the point of catastrophic detonation? Chalk it up to ingorance. Its unfortnately just what we have to deal with buying and being involved with a car like the MS3.

Back in my Subie days, I dont remember hearing about the same things I've read about here with the MS3. That goes back to what I said previously.

Bottom line if it bothers you that much, either A. stay off the forums or just ignore the idiots trolling about or B. trade in the MS3 for an STI or Evo and the number of spoiled teenagers blowing up their cars and complaining about it on the forums will drastically decrease.

I'm done.

If you were smart, you would have kept the subie.

P.S. Nasioc is worse than m247 could ever be.

I have grown tired of reading all the gripes about how bad the MS3 is or how bad Cobb is or this is or that is.

If you believed everything you read you would think that this car was a Yugo with a turbo.

Please use common sense when it comes to modifying your cars. If you choose replace your DP or change your intake or WG or tune make sure you understand the implications.

If you are going to modify start by getting one step colder plugs. If you use a specific cobb OTS map then do not under any circumstance use any different mechanical part than was tested with the map. For instance if it is a Cobb Stage 1 91 octane with MSCAI2, use the one step colder plug with the MSCAI (with air straightener) and at least 91 octance fuel. Do not ask if you can use a nano or a test pipe or anything else.

Wasn't that easy? Now there have been some cases that a part (cobb sri comes to mind) where this still seem to be causing problems but I think these are very rare. I would also not use any other intake (beside the MSCAI2) without a tune to match. The MSCAI2 was tested for the application with the stock tune.

I owned a Subaru Forester XT before this and engine problems did happen but not to this extent. HOWEVER, people were not throwing on test pipes or whatver without getting a map to match. Many of those people had a pro tunes.

So please if you blow up your car or have funky AF or EGT or knock or whatever and you have done any of the above keep it to yourself.

OK let the flaming commence

You can't solve complaining by complaining about the people that complain, that's only adding to the complaining. The only thing this post shows is that you yourself do not have common sense.

so why did mazda make a 2.3l turbo car......or any turbo car? why does anyone make turbo cars? we should all just drive around in a prius leave it bone stock and obey all laws. and wear the same color everything and everyone say the same thing. lets all be plain and all the same. that would be so much fun!!!

Rhetorical perhaps. However, I modified the original post a little to get more to the point and less of a gripe.

With things like the AP, common things can mix and match. Like a SRI is pretty much a SRI and an FMIC is pretty much a FMIC. The only things that are iffy are a NON-Catted DP as the MAPS are all created for a Catted DP and the Injen CAI as it is known to have issue but there is a fix Christian can do.

However, I do agree that Common Sense is in short supply on this and pretty much every other forum out there.

I am running Cobb DP, AP and Injen CAI. Does Christian in fact have a beta map that will run better than the Stage2+MSCAI2 91 v103?? Does it get rid of the touchy throttle??

I haven't signed up on the cobb forums but the beta links don't open for me with "page not found" Maybe because I am not a member yet?

thanks
