Cold Air Intake Install Problem

Im trying to help my friend with installing a CAI on her 2002 Protege 5. It was a gift for Christmas from Pro Car Parts and Im having difficulty installing it.

First off, the first section of pipe barely clears the brake lines (pic 1), but I got it to finally fit.

My second problem is there is no rubber fitting for the Mass Air. There is a connector for the TB to the intake and a connector to combine the 2 pipes. Where the hell does the MAF go?

Lastly, the pipes do not seem to go together in a way that I can fit the filter on the end. Im stuck and out of ideas/patience. Anyone deal with this kit or one similar that can give a hand?

Well, it doesn't look like you have enough parts, for one...also, I can't really be sure from the pics if it's even fitted for the Protege.
The MAF needs to go between the pipes, so you'll need couplers for each end.
That will probably at least get the pipe lined up with the hold in the fender well...but it doesn't look long enough to go down in there.

If you get another coupler you might be able to swing the pipe around to face the outside of the engine bay and make it a Short-Ram.

Even the seller's pic doesn't show enough parts but a lot of times it's just a stock photo. And there's no '04 Protege...lol.

Well, luckily I had plenty of connectors and band clamps from my turbo mustang to make it work. If anyone plans on getting that kit from PCP, DONT!!!

It isnt pretty, but it works. We'll definitely be replacing it ASAP, but for now, its better than stock.

It looks like the HKS filter that can be used on our cars (or at least a knock-off of the HKS style). If it is a true HKS filter, I would take that over any K&N.

Anyway, pretty clean install for using spare parts from another car, good job.

If you need another intake, I have the K&N Typhoon and highly reccommend it, very nice fitment.

how's the fitment on the first elbow from the throttle body? I had a K&N CAI and the elbow kept hitting the Brake solenoid/lines, it completely damaged the elbow, I ended up getting the Injen CAI cause of the rubber hose elbow they use. You might want to check that area after a few days just to make sure it's not damaging anything.

I have one of the CAI's Protephile sells, it fit great, easy install, i love it, AND it was much more affordable than the K&N & Injen intakes.

i have a injen in take and i love it really easy to install and every thing. but yeah i might put me a hks filter on the injen and see how it would work

i have a bomz racing sri, and it works for me! $40 ftw! all i have to do is put a better filter on it and ill be fine. it sounds mean with it on
