Cobb SF Intake released

then don't drive in the rain - esp with this thin paint, lol

but seriously... a person I know (don't want to say friend b/c I don't associate with him) took off his intake and poured water into his engine to try and make it hydrolock so insurance would buy him a new engine. They took it to the shop, drained the cylinders and dried the MAF and it started right up.

My other vehicle is a Land Rover Discovery, and I've been in several situations where I've had to drive through water that's up and over the hood. The factory airbox is right behind the driver side headlight. I didn't pull in any water at all.

but if you're worried about it, get an SRI and call it a day

i just ordered my cobb intake, what benefits are you looking for in changing the filter?

I was looking for exactly what a poster stated just after you asked - improved air flow, dry filter (no oil), etc. I thought it'd be may 1hp more or something, but cleaner flowing/improved air flow with the second 'cone' inlet inthe middle of the Apexi I thought would make my suctions louder, lol. LOVE the sucking sounds!

Ordering a Cobb SRI Immediately!!

With the Cobb SRI I still get the great sound and it is less than half the price... less with a simpler install. I don't have to turn around and find another road when I come to a puddle I can't see the bottom of.... yippee. No worries about rain puddles, flash floods or mounds of snow ramming into my front grill in the winter.

Hey, what is an AccessPort and what will that do to my MS 3?

Cheers, the Cobb is a winner in my book!

Welcome to the forum!!

Hey, what is an AccessPort and what will that do to my MS 3?

nothing, its not released for ms3 yet

it's a plug and play tuning solution, we have yet to see what its capable of because cobb takes their time developing products.

search is your friend (though in this case, you may want to search outside this forum towards wrx tuners using cobb, since that's pretty much all we have to go on as far as capabilities)

Should I get Cobb SRI?

Been debating wich SRI to get. Like the Cobb and HKS. Like the Cobb because of the built in air flow straitner but dont like the wet filter. Have had bad experiences with oiled filters on my previous 4runner, entire intake full of oil and MAF got screwed up because of oil. HKS SRI dont know if that huge mushroom filter can be trusted to keep small particles of dirt out and it looks quite thin from photos.(dunno)

skip the HKS, go Cobb -- you're dead right about the HKS not filtering properly. If I can find it again, I'll see if I can get you a link where they did a test on the hks versus others

Oiled filters are not evil, but over-oiling them is. Other than that, amisol makes a nice reusable dry filter that fits the cobb intake

Cobb SRI

Thanks for the info I already saw the thread about the filter tests. I definetely think COBB SRI FTW(2thumbs)

Does anyone got the latest info about the Cobb filter box and if they will ever sell it? MAYBE they will borrow the Autoexe Ram-air design and design it around the Cobb SRI.

according to cobb's own forum....

they scrapped the original design and are completely tight-lipped about the new re-design. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the original design was similiar to auto-exe. And they found something better

I posted the link for everyone in the HKS thread.

I just installed the Cobb SF intake in my MSpeed3 over the weekend. Easy install but have to note that pulling the OEM accordion hose off was a pain. First impressions...intake sounds great. Turbo spooling is distinct. Very happy.

BTW, this is my first post as I just registered this morning. There is a wealth of information on this forum and I'm thankful for everyone's helpfulness. Cheers.

That damned accordian hose was a pain coming off the turbo, wasn't it? I fought it for a good 15m and I cut my fecking finger when it popped off. SOB.

Spot on. I have some battle scars to boot, too. I haven't done so much cussin' in a long time. My neighbors were spooked. After all the swearing was done, the ride is so much sweeter. Sounds great as-is, so for now, I don't plan to upgrade the stock BPV. The many threads and debates about them are informative nonetheless. If I were to choose, I'd pick the Forge BPV based on what I've read.

I will tell you now that I'll take a stuck hose over a hose that has a propensity to rot right off the damn car. My Supra killed 3 accordian hoses right at the inlet thanks to a combination of heat, oil and rubber quality.

Side question: Has anybody noted a possible problem with the IC connecting hoses possibly coming off the metal parts? It was too hot for me to dig into it last time I saw it, but I noticed that there was shiny metal just ahead of the rubber hose, and it had that telltale sign of possibly slipping off and exposing fresh metal on the pipe. Is this something people have noticed?

Hey question guys... is the HP differences between the SF and the various CAI really that high? Cobb say its 6HP gain and injen has 25HP gain?

I was thinking of getting the Cobb but I saw the gains and it made me think.

Thanks

Read earlier on in this thread, theres a big discussion about this. The bottom line is really that the numbers are different on the dyno, but NOT in a real life driving situation. Sometimes companies like injen and K&N will make some pretty outrageous claims on their intakes.

just got the intake installed and took it for a drive. definately pulls alot harder, and i love the sound coming from it. this new tank of gas is going to go by real quick for sure.......

so i'm a noob

just a quick and stupid question. will this work on a mazda3 (not mazdaspeed)? i'm 95% sure it will, but i doubt myself because almost everyone i see posting about this has a ms3 not a m3.
