Cobb Intake Vs Mazdaspeed CAI - Loudness?

What about the tinny "whooosh" sound? More or less with the SRI vs. the CAI? I could definitely do with more turbo whistle, whine, whatever, and less intake whoosh.

Still a lot of whooosh from both. But there is more whistle/whine from the Cobb SRI from my perspective.

Even though I plan on going to Cobb for most stuff, a factory warrantied CAI is nice and here in FLA, every bit of cold air is hard to come by so wheres the cheapest place to order from?

with the cobb sri...it being a short ram, it should be pretty easy (easier than CAI) to bolt it off and put the stock intake back on if you're worried about it for dealer runs.

Agreed, that's a major advantage. Just leave the hard-to-take-off air deflector right where it is and swap the box and MAF as necessary. I thought I'd reinstall my box for service but it's too much trouble, so, oh well. If they make a note of it I've given them ammo against me in a warranty fight.

Any of you guys ever pull your air filter out completely from the stock box? Just wondering if the sound difference is somewhat close to an aftermarket cai or sri? Just a thought for us old guys trying to maintain our sleeper status. Was thinking of doing this today and driving around the block to see if it made a difference in sound?

removing air filter completely = engine murder. don't do it.

You have a turbine spinning at 239847293479247 rpms, if anything solid gets in there, goodbye turbo.

Yeah, I knew someone would put that up. Trust me allot of guys at the track run no filters.? I realize its not a good idea for day to day driving, but for a few seconds at a clean track or a drive around my block, it isn't gonna hurt anything. Lets not turn this into a don't do it thing, Your right in a way, but I prob was just going to start it in the garage and see how it sounded.

There has been 2 or 3 threads about this already.
