Cobb AP Discussion Thread

I will like to know if I can just leave the Standback with no tune and install the AP and use the Standback to change boost settings only?

JC

I don't believe you can do that. I think that once you program the ECU with the AP that it will be locked unless you use the same AP to change parameters. If that is correct, the Standback will not recognize the ECU once you have programmed it with the AP.

Sounds kind of scary. I would hate to see you corrupt your ECU and have to replace it.

EDIT: You should use AccessTuner RACE with the Cobb AP if you want to customize boost levels.

Yes, you can...., sorta. I currently use my Xede map switching capability to zero the WGDC to keep the turbo on WG only for "normal" driving where the AP tune is set to 21 psi. I wouldn't use the SB to try and run boost higher than the AP tune is set for though.

Does the SB have on-the-fly map "switching" capability like the Xede? If so, you can zero out one map completely and run the full AP tune. On the other map you can zero all except the WGDC. You intercept it and do a minus 100% calculation on the WGDC which will zero the output to the WG Solenoid and keep the turbo on WG spring pressure only.

About to buy an AP, its for an ms3 and has the ms3 license. Is it possible to make it work with the 6? How do i go about doing that?

and what would be the best map to run with only the pg full length sri only?

Hey guys. I've got some weird KR goin on, though maybe I could get some opinions. On the freeway I run through 5th gear getting up to speed, let off the gas to shift to 6th and KR shoots up to 4-6 range. Once in 6th, KR drops back to 0, but then if I touch the gas at all in the next few seconds, KR starts climbing with the amount of throttle I give it. Let it cruise for 5-10 seconds, and it's back to normal. Very strange. I'm hoping somebody recognizes this scenario.

The AP model is the same for the MS3/MS6. It will know when you plug it in which vehicle its setup for. Just make sure its unmarried from the previous owner so that its not locked and you'll be alright. A quick update and some maps loaded other than the ones preloaded (they'll show up after you plug it in) and you'll be ready to go.

For your map, I'd start with the Stage 1 91 (or 93 if avail.) and see how that runs.

What map are you using?

Most of the knock I see now is on the freeway, cruising between 75-80, usually while the engine is warming up. I'll see spikes up to 6, then instant drop. No real rhyme or reason to it, and it happens right now without a map on it.

I sometimes wonder if this is because of an inadequately calibrated MAFS.

I've run 2 different maps, both have this same KR scenario. I've been running a Stage 1 Fujita 91 map, but recently switched to a Stage 1 TIHSF 91 map and transfered my MAF calibration and a couple other changes. I had been getting WOT knock and power loss at the top end of 4th gear with the Fujita map and wanted to try something different, and I have the Cobb TIH. I recently cleaned the MAF sensor. I've been searching around and it seems like this is a common problem. I was trying to replicate it right now on the way back from work and if I accelerate in 6th 2800-3200 RMPs and then let off it does it consistently until the car's fairly warmed up.

I had bad KR with both the Stage2 91 and 93 TIHSF maps as well as the TIHSF TMIC maps.

Switched back to the Stage2 93 TMIC and have no problems.

I have been running Stage 2 TIHCPN +FMIC 93 for a while now. I was the beta tester for this map. Chirstian never did get a chance to tune this map for power. No bad KR with this map. Highest I have seen on average is 1.4. I dont think I have seen anything over 2 with the PTP turbo fix. I did do some changes to the map myself in atr. I smoothed out the throttle mapping so boost is much more controlable.

stage one 91 plus sf feels like nothing happened. sorry for not searching but I reflashed the map till I could get an answer. how long till I notice a change?

You should feel it right away. Or in your case, 50 miles after the break in. Might not be much power increase on a 91 octane map. What is the boost targeting?

i think 16.5 but my gauge says 12 and its off the stock bov. but the ap says it spikes around 17 and takes to 16-15. i will get a datalog in a few hundo km's to see if everything is alrighty. i get between 0 and .1 kr under wot so im not too worried. just wondering why it dont feel fast to me. well i did have 3 people total in the car, and one was 300+lbs, im 230, and my gf is like 1XX??? she might read this so i must not say...

the cobb dyno said a 3rd gear pull after guessing our weight's is around 320hp 360 tq. now i am assuming that would be engine.
but my cel keeps blinking on startup after only, well its been 100km, so i assume its still learning.

How do you "save" the stock map before you start going to town trying OTS ???

There's an option when you plug it into a new vehicle that asks you if you want to save it. It takes 30-35 minutes to store the 'stock' setup.
