Clunk Updates

I'm not sure (but I'll assume so), but I think the new E's are making a similar crunching sound like the front. It goes away after a few bumps (the back only; the front sticks around all the way to work, thus never really going away) so I'm fine with that as long as the clunk stays away...Im really wating for the 6-12 month mark or so to show any kind of optimism.

We pray for Dave (2thumbs)

I don't have a warranty. Should all dealers have/know the E bushings, or should I hound them? I bought this car used, so the bushings that are probably stock.

If I got 6 months out of them....there would be no complaints here.

Only one month so far. 1000 kms. Haven't been driving much, but we have a s*** load of snow, and it's all the fun slushy crap. The old ones wouldn't last 2-3 days in this stuff.

fingers still cross.

btw...my car isn't making any noise front or back :) knock on wood.

not a sound. Like I said before, the back only squeaks ( struts ) when it's a cold dry air...usually only for a few weeks in fall, then again in spring. My mp3 was like this.

As for the front. No idea why it stopped.

Just an update...

I'm over 1000 miles under some of the most brutal conditions I could ever imagine. It has been horribly cold the last week and snow all over. A lot of the roads are half covered in ice and are EXTREMELY bumpy and are traveled every day. It amazes me that the rear isn't clunking yet under those conditions.....I mean I have every other noise (rear deck clatter, seat belt rattle, door lock squeek, and the front bushings screaming like a b**** in heat) but the rear has been astonishingly quiet. If they last another 1000 miles under these conditions I just may begin thinking this bushing might work. I only fear that the bushings are still taking too much abuse to hold up; and I also wish Mazda would release a "sealed" bushing to keep out all the salt and dirt on the roads. All the grime from the roads just might cause the teflon's downfall. We'll see....so far a thumbs up.

Edit - for grammer.

I have no clunk. The previous owner just put the E bushings on. Hopefully I will not hear anything rolling around unless I become a Transporter.

This is potentially good news for the E bushing, but sad news for mechanics. As people who read this know, my E bushings failed and the dealer asked me what I wanted them to do. I told them to order the whole rear setup in case it was the original bar causing my bushings to fail so soon. I took the car in yesterday to get everything replaced and the tech found something very interesting. When I originally took my car in for the clunk back in November of 01, my old dealer (Cascade Mazda), replaced the end links. As my tech found out yesterday, they put on the end links for a normal protege, which are about 2 inches longer than an MP3's. How the hell they got everything to fit, I don't know. Anyway, so now I have everything brand new and correct in the rear (supposedly). I am still dissapointed that my current dealer didn't notice this during the last two years. The testing begins again.

good to hear you got some stuff straightened out; this is good news like you said ;)

I have E bushings on the car I just purchased. I have not ran the car for 1 week. I started it up today and put it in Reverse to back out of the Garage. It wouldn't move then I gave a bit of gas and it "CLUNKED". I let it warm up for 3 minutes. I never heard it again today so far. What do you think? I'm in MN and it's not overly cold out today. maybe 30 degrees

Hello everyone! Well, I had my car in for the crunch in the front, and all around squeakiness (and an oil change)...lubed struts and new bushings...ALL AROUND...well, the clunk is gone, but the squeaks are here. One good thing about this though. Since the squeaks tend to be on an annual schedule, I'd be fine with just replacing them all once a year as opposed to the way its been. Too bad my warranty will probably be up by this time next year :( :) hmmmm...

jtmarlin6 - I'd say make sure you actually had the e bushings, if so how new is the bar? Since you only just bought it, I'd say you might be in the dark about a few things there

Scott. Tell me you didn't replace working e bushings in the back with another set because you thought they were squeaking?

Again guys. The clunk is NOT caused by cold. Stop it already. This has been proven. The struts squeaking, the bushings crunching...all effected by cold. Your bushings clunking is more caused by wetness then cold. Guess what also happens when it snows....your bushings get wet more often.

I didn't do anything, didn't ask at all. Mentioned the squeaking while cold, and crunching in the front. the dealer felt it necessary to stop whatever the problem was. replaced with new E's (I'm very hopefully assuming; I'm picking the car up tomorrow)...
So, we'll see...(shrug)

Newf, you're 100% correct on the effect of cold. Not much of an effect on the clunk, but all the effect on the crunch/squeak.

I'm not too worried...even if they did, they'd make it right for me without a problem. I've been pumping up my dealership on here for good reason. They are legit, and very good at everything they do. They get tens every time a survey comes (well, except for location :) I've got to drive 45 mins each way to use them; AND they are the closest dealer... We'll see. you KNOW I'll keep you all updated :D

I have the receipt for the E Bushings. It has clunked one time when I didn't run it for a week in the cold. I have not noticed yet. I will find out later when it gets colder. Do you think the bar should possibly be replaced?

Got it back, new bushings in front and in back.(the E's again)
Car sounds perfect, even on the coldest days and sitting for 2 of them, it makes not a single faint squeak. Feels great, very tight. Very nice.:)
