Closet Gas Hogs

Kind of a shocker about the Mazda's. But is anyone really shocked about the Wrangler's? 15/19 is being really nice from when I know of them, more like 12/14.

Mazdas have never been fuel efficient, esp. compared to other Japanese cars in their class.

You do realize this is because of the Corvette's completely ridiculous 6th gear right? I think I remember reading that 6th is geared so low that the Corvette actually achieves a higher top speed in 5th and it's damn near impossible to accelerate with downshifting from 6th in the first place. With that being said Mazdas are notorious for having close gear ratios. I bet if they ran the Corvette in 5th (or whatever gear is similar in ratio to the RX-8's 5th or 6th) the results would be similar if not reversed.

the problem is that you can't run the mazdas at those RPMs and still be able to move. the torque at like 1500rpm on an rx8 is like 2. the vette i'm sure isn't quick there but it can get out of its own way. the biggest annoyance with the vette i would think is the 2-4 lockout during normal city driving. i can't say i'm really shocked about any car on that list. the most surprising are the S80 and the sky/solstice

Since when did Mazda ever boast that their ROTARY powered car got great gas mileage...?

this isnt ******* news people...

pfff.. you are ignorant.. the rotary is the pinnacle of internal combustion efficiency :p

The corvette is hardly the problem in that comparison.
The RX8 is an abomination and needs to be completely rebuilt or just removed from the line up from the line like the outclassed POS it is

(butt)

anyone that's surprised by a sports cars and suvs getting that kind of mileage is a fool.

not surprised but the vette is a sports car. And there are some SUV's that get decent mileage. Its jus that your average joe wouldn't know that the RX-8 is thirsty like a HUMVEE!!!

You got to PAY to play...That simple...especially with a rotary...you want mpg...get a toaster Toyota or Honda and join the masses.

Learn to live a little and get a rotary ;)

Nevar! But I can't get a rotary either because I like torque. 2.3 DISI please :)

EXACTLY.... i wish all these r-tards that bought RX8s that complain about gas mileage and oil consumption could be whopped in the head w/ a tack hammer for their ignorance...

what, you mean it doesn't get 40mpg highway?

Well I have been grossly misinformed.

Why is my rotary burning oil?!?!?!

Cus its supposed to you say? Balderdash!!!!

I was just saying it's a joke to compare a car with a close gear ratio to one that has a 6th gear that can only be used for cruising. Last time I checked the RX-8's 5th or 6th (depending on the model) still allowed you to accelerate without having to downshift. Sure the RX-8 gets bad gas mileage - it is a rotary, but to compare it to a standard piston engine with a transmission built for good mileage is nonsense.
