Care to predict new features lineup for 2018+ CX-5?

Let's say I'm reasonably happy with the 2017 CX-5 and don't care much about the new features offered in future models (predicted here and elsewhere), when do they normally release the crash test safety ratings for 2017 MY? Is it normal that insurance agents did not perform such tests prior to 17 production? Or are they just not making those videos public yet?
Even on 2016 Mazda CX-9 which has been out for almost a year, neither NHTSA nor IIHS offers crash test ratings for the model at this time!

Thanks Xeler8ing & yrwei52. You now know my ignorance not only applies to basic maintenance of the CX-5 (not even bulb change) but how the car industry works too. :-(

No biggie. That's what forums are for, to be able to ask questions to stuff one doesn't know and get the answers :)

No ratings from either on my GX 460 either and current generation has been out since 2010.

I think in US it might have to do something with higher GVWR and only testing vehicles at higher market sales volume.

There are crash tests from Asia and Austrialia that seem to indicate GX is relatively safe though. Rollover in side crash... yeah... might make for a roller coaster ride.

And previous CX-5 got 5 star ANCAP rating. So this model should be the same

Yes, hopefully better than the 1st-gen, as they're claiming the 2017 CX-5 has a "15% stiffer chassis, 3% more ultra-high tensile steel, thicker sheetmetal".

BTW found this statement in the 2017 CX-5 press kit, like you folks said it will probably take a while:

"While no safety evaluations have yet been conducted, Mazda is looking to continue the success of the previous-generation model that had earned multiple NHTSA and IIHS commendations."

I'd say with extra i-activsense features now standard, might get a higher mark this time around... when ever it gets tested that is

Mazda shouldn't say that! In fact on NHTSA frontal crash test ratings which are printed on the window sticker, 2016 CX-5 got 3 stars out of a 5-star rating system for front passenger! This's one of the worst on passenger-side rating in the same class! That's why Mazda should make NHTSA crash ratings on 2017 CX-5 available as soon as possible, to "overcome" the poor NHTSA passenger-side rating record on 2016 CX-5!

This actually makes me have my wife driving a lot more when we ride together on our CX-5. Of course the little hassle of re-adjusting the driver seat (which makes me miss the memory seat function more) is another reason of letting her drive! :)

Nothing like a ride or die chick! ;)

Omg Yrwei52..... That's really honorable of you to sit in the passenger seat in the unlikely event you get in that exact type of accident.
Yes, Mazda should say that.
Still looks pretty damn impressive. They have one area to improve on.

This is our the test results from just superseded model:

My guess is that the new one should improve on this.

With reference to predicting features, my guess is the extra features on the 2017 CX-5 Akera such as radar cruise control, Lane keep assist might trickle down to the lower models probably as optional extras.

I can tell how much you love your wife by volunteering to be the PASSENGER SIDE crash test dummy. :-)

For some reason I can only find the passenger side small overlap crash test video. Also, only 2015, although 2016 should has the same body (??)

You can find those crash videos at NHTSA website. When we're shopping for new CX-5 2 years ago, the NHTSA ratings for 2016 CX-5 had not been available yet. Based on almost all 5-star ratings on 2015 CX-5 and no changes on chassis for 2016, I assumed the crash ratings should be as perfect as 2015. But I was shocked to see some people posting the 2016 ratings once they're available, and the passenger-side got downgraded from 5 to 3 stars! Somehow Mazda did some changes for 2016 which affected the NHTSA frontal crash test score negatively. That's why I'm anxious to see new NHTSA crash test ratings for 2017 CX-5 as these NHTSA ratings, not like IIHS ratings, are printed on the window sticker and people shopping for new cars can easily see them!

So is it just a matter of finding any new 2017 CX-5 in the dealership lot before they do the PDI / remove the sticker? BTW, how was the Test Drive event today?

Would they remove the sticker all because the new model hasn't been tested yet?

No the "window sticker" I'm referring to is official paper sticker we're seeing on the window of every new vehicle in the US with vehicle information and MSRP. It includes government required EPA fuel economy ratings and NHTSA crash test ratings too. Dealers can't remove the window sticker before they sold the vehicle.
