Car accelaration changed to less with K&N

:
Mazda Protege ES
I have a Protege ES and use to have a spectre cone filter and recently I changed to a K&N 3" cone and my acceleration decreased on the lower end but the top end seems with more power has anyone had the same issue or outcome with this filter.

spectre - 1st and 2nd with power
k&n - 3rd and 4th with power

(drive2)

I drive every day from sanford to deltona on 415 and been testing it and is the same outcome every time

What can it be??

probably due to the volume of air your taking in. K&N flows more air so its prob leaning out in your lower gears and hitting perfect afr's in the higher gears. makes sense if it was the reverse with your old filter. wasnt flowing as much so you had good afr's in the lower gears and leaning out in the upper.

it depends on what type of driving you like to do. If you like to haul ass on the highway then better topend, if you like stoplight to stoplight or in city driving or autoX then lowend would be better. If you could find a filter size thats in the middle of the 2 you have tried then in theory it should be good for both.

Might want to reset your ecu. It will learn with the new filter
