Yeah, I searched but i never seem to find what I'm looking for. I want to know about these cams.

http://www.srmotorsports.com/Mazda_Protege_Performance_Engine_Parts.html

They are listed as a "Mazdaspeed" cam, which is the same as the j-specs, correct? If so, i thought the exhaust cam was discontinued but they have it on that site. Also, everyone is saying that the Mazdaspeed cams add like 5-7 HP, if so where are some dynos? The ones I've seen are really limiited. The only one I found was a Protege dynoing at 103 and then 110 with the intake cam. The NA-tech dyno sticky is a bit thin on the dynos.

where do i start with srm...hmmmm

i would never buy a thing from them purely on principle. false advertising galore! mazdaspeed intake cam? arh no. their mazdaspeed exhaust cam is purely a repinned j-spec intake cam. pitty they dont tell you that (however it is the same).

the hp figures from the cams depend on what else you have done (i cant remember). both of them with a stock cast header wont do much.

Although I agree with Andy on the advertising scheme...SRmotorsports is a huge rotary tuner out of California, and even though they make some bogus claims on protege parts...the Rotary community swears by their parts and packages...Its not often that SCC runs a tuner car from a company that makes and sells lots of stuff for proteges too...

but the Shane Racing thing is where I get confused...a lot of people call SRmotorsports Shane Racing...But the owner is not named Shane, and I have never seen it referred to that on their website...SCC made no indication of a Shane Racing when testing the SR RX-8 too...

Nevermind...I just found it...back in the 80's they were referred to as Shane Racing, but it was sold and moved to a different performance shop...and it combined with another rotary tuner to just become SRmotorsports...

I don't know...I have heard a lot of good things about them, but is still bothers me about the cam stuff...oh well...I wouldn't rule them out entirely because of some marketing...its not nearly as bad as getting no package after you pay for something...

ages and ages ago i sent an email to them saying "i didnt know there was a mazdaspeed intake cam, could you please tell me about it" then for around 5 months they changed their website to j-spec intake cam....and now it's back to mazdaspeed intake cam. oh and have a look at their price for a un-named "obx" header

Well, should I buy these things or what? I'm only looking for around 8-10whp and a more useable power curve up top.

I'd like to get an exhaust cam since ill already be going the intake cam. I really don't care if the exhaust cam is just a repinned stock intake cam, as long as it helps the car breathe.

what about the wagner cams? i dunno how long they've been on sale, but i recently visited their site today and the cams are on sale for 600 w/ a 24.6 whp gain...what's everyone think of those cams?

I agree with the comments made about SR. It is a bit sketchy what they offer. But they are not all that bad. I have their cat-back system with which I am totally impressed with, no false advertising on that. Also got the strut tower bar and anti-sway bar from them. The quality is superb! But should of just got that crap from AWR, could have save a bit of $$$.

Wagner Cams! I am interested in those myself. But I don't know anything beyound what is on their site. I have their header, down and mid with high flow cats. Great product, nice guys and pleasure doing business with. So I believe them when they say 26HP gain.

Hi guys! I've bought a few things from SR. The parts I installed have worked excellent. Good quality stuff. They're expensive, but definitely noticed gains from their parts. The service was great and fast delivery too. My mechanic did a comparison between the stock intake cam and the SR intake cam. We found that the lobe seemed to be a fraction higher. The duration was measured to be the greatest difference. The SR cam has a longer duration than stock, resulting obviously in more air intake than stock. I can remember testing the car out after the intake cam was installed. It's hard to put a finger on how much hp. I'll say around 8-10hp from intake cam alone. I didn't feel such a surprising change after the exhaust cam was installed. I'll say around 5-8hp or so. I should have dynoed the car after each stage but I didn't want to spend the money on the dyno time. Anyways, just wanted to say that SR is alright with me. I raced a Honda CRX with cams (only mod, so he said) and I got friggin *****. Mental note: Don't race CRX's anymore. It looked like a POS too, but it was fast..Later and peace.

the sr intake cam is the j-spec intake cam. nothing special there.

personally i dont see the point spending top dollar when you could have got the same thing (or better) for less.

The problem with the re-pinned cam for me is the question of how well was it re-pinned? Cam gears with the SR exhaust cam would be a must. As well as dyno time.
