Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

The oil drain side is exactly 50% larger diameter which means that the area for flow out of the turbo is 2.25 times more than the oil inlet side. The oil outlet or drain has 125% more flow than the inlet side.

This is from BorgWarner Turbo Systems.

would a heavier weight oil help? i.e. like 5W-40 (this is what the dealer put in my car at my last oil change) synthetic of course.

The real solution people is to replace the defective turbo...

Its not a mystery, the oil seals are defective on smoking cars!!!

see i run 5w-30 and dont burn a drop of oil. when i do my oil change every 3000 i run just exactly 6 quarts....it just looks scorched. its not death black but for a brand new car with only 3000 miles a change it should be more towards the translucent right? or is it because turbo cars run hotter which is the need to change the oil more frequent because of scorching? anyways....i dont lose oil...but maybe its because its not enough to notice loss but just cause the smoking. a drop of oil can go a long way.............maybe ill try the thicker weight next time, which is soon, to see if there is a change exhaust side. well.....after the catch can goes in to see if that fixes it first.

I had a custom turbo back exhaust installed about a month after I bought my MS3. Not too long after that, I had the smoking problem at idle. I took it into the dealership (with the custom exhaust still on it.) They told me that some of the turbos were having problems. They replaced mine with no questions asked about my aftermarket exhaust system. Since the replacement, I have put another 7,000 miles on the car. No more smoke problems. I will keep you posted if that changes.

Can you post your build date and the part number from the non smoking replacement turbo they put in?

Hi, I am new here just came across your thread and signed up. I have a 2007 ms3 with about 10k I just had the 2nd cat removed and 3" back, an hour after install when i started up my car I noticed a cloud of white/blue smoke at idle. It now occurs just about everytime @ idle. Hope I have helped something should be done about this. Dustin.

Take your car to the dealer and have your turbo replaced!!!! You might want to put your car back to stock or at least put the 2nd cat back on depending how your dealership feels about mods...

Only question is a lot of people are saying when cats are put back on smoke is eliminated. Dont really want to take it in moded and get the big boner. Started her up today smoke and smell are awfull. Do you think the dealer will deny this problem due to an intake.

Maybe, depends on the dealer...
The smoking issues on 2007 MS3 is a known problem. Dealers should not be shooing you away... Just be straight and honest with them.
But I would ask anonymously how they feel about mods.

My warranty was voided due to having the cpe cold air intake. My exhaust constantly smells like oil right now I think I have a rear seal leak and won't know for sure until the new turbo comes in for me to replace (PG's reworked). As for the "revised" turbo, people are still having smoking issues with the new turbos that are rumored to be manufactured. When I called Mazda national service they said my warranty was voided due to having a "fuel intake", that's exactly what the girl told me. I guess it's an illegal fuel filter? lol

I got into a dispute with her for about 10 minutes about how she didn't know what she was talking about and that the service reps didn't know either since they put down that my warranty was voided due to a mod that doesn't even exist.

"fuel intake" lol

Are people really having the problem still after the updated turbo is installed??? So basically this problem will never go away until you upgrade... nice.
