Cali Smog???

Hey I was talking to some guy that works at a performance shop down here and he told me the because of some California law, since our cars are ULEV cars we don't have to deal with getting them smogged, I guess there is a good reason for 2 cats and a resinator! But's thats if this law is true, does anyone know of anything like this??? If it is, I'll get the FS-ZE engine this month!

I did a pretty extensive search....I could not find anything stating this...HOWEVER...I did find where it DID say that if you have a ULEV, of which the protege is one, that you can fill out the correct form and apply for a clean air sticker for your car and it would allow you, as a SINGLE occupant, to use the HOV (high occupancy vehicle, or carpool lanes). of course this will REQUIRE you to get your car smogged every year to verify you have maintained your car in ULEV status.

That's why you all should be living in Texas. CARB policies make me dizzy and gives me headaches. Wait 'a minute here, I'm an environmentalist... err, so I, err, mean... great rules! Keep the world fresh and clean!! (honestly!) :D

Sir Nuke, this HOV thing, is that in California? And where did you find that. It would be cool to be able to use the carpool lane with out another passenger!!!

it was in CALIFORNIA....but i went and looked at the application again and noticed that it only applies to ULEV's that are OTHER than gasoline powered....sorry for getting your hopes up. :(

To qualify for the decals, your vehicle must meet Federal Inherently Low Emission Vehicle standards and California emission standards for one of the following:
How does this not include us, arn't we ULEV???

Bummer... I checked out the application and we don't qualify... We are ULEV, but we still run on gas. Not even the hybrids qualify, so it's pretty tough to get one of these stickers. You also get to park for free at meters!!! You have to run on CNG (clean natural gas) or LPG (liquified petroleum gas) to get the sticker. Took a lot of digging, but I finally got this info from DMV.:(
