CAI Scoop?

Cork Sport is selling a part that replaces the panel under the front bumper with one that has a scoop in it (just the corner under where the CAI filter is). It's supposed to improve the flow of air to a CAI and I guess provide some (probably negligible) performance increase.

Can anyone think of a reason to get this other than it looking pretty spiffy? I mean, the idea behind it is decent but how much good could it really do?

Not much, prob wont do anything except scoop up rainwater when you hit puddles that otherwise would have stayed out of the chamber where the filter sits. Bad idea, grasshopper.

Yeah, I'd considered that ... figured the water might be good for compression though. (eek2)

Gah, I should just put a turbo in it and be done with it.

i made one myself for 15 bucks total, i used some parts from home deport and painted them black, u couldn't see it unless, but mine had a cover in case of bad rain (i live in florida), it was nice while it lasted....

Yeah, I would say bad idea. Maybe cutting a hole in the rear of the fender liner (wheel side) might be better if you had to, but then you'll probably just fling road crap onto the filter.

Although, I can't see how the water would actually make it up the pipe to do any real damage. You'd probably just stall the car out if you got a bunch of water in there.

This has been debated to all hell, and yes it would provide the best power when combined with a CAI, since you're getting fresh outside air right to the filter. Fact is, the amount of water you'd have to drive through to get enough into that filter to cause damage would be about the same as before. That filter would have tobe TOTALLY submerged to hydrolock your engine. If you're coming up to a REAL deep uddle that you absolutely have to go through, pick up speed, stick her in neutral and shut off the engine and just coast through...

lol my fender liner is actually like that right now (i broke it going over some rr tracks when i had a body kit

got really caked up in snow when i was up north in december but it just cakes up around it and doesn't hurt anything. . .eventually it just melts and goes back to the ground
