CAI question

Is it true that you need to take it off every time you take it in for warranty service? That's a pain in the ass isn't it?

How much more airflow (cold) will you get from a CAI compared to dropping in a K&N filter?

Thanks!

i dunno about taking it off everytime you go to the dealer, but i guess it depends on the service dept. as far as more airflow...thats sort of a heated debate on whether a cai is better or worse than a sri or stock box w/ k&n....I have a k&n drop in and it seems to help more than the stock filter. I'm getting an Injen cai because of all the positive things i've heard and because there's not really a good sri setup out there yet...

oh yeah..try and do a search..you'll find much more useful information....

like stated, depends on ur dealers attitude...if they'll try and void ur warrenty because of a damn intake lol.....if u dont wanna deal with the headache, just get a drop in k&n :)

Joey whom makes the MBC had only a K&N Drop in and said that it was a really efficient stock air box. He had that w/ stock IC and dynoed some gawd awesome 267 whp at 18 psi on race fuel. Someone correct my #'s if they are wrong.

only thing i dont like about the stock box is the intake tubing diameter and the number of bends it has....besides that its fine to me...im fabin a sri for my msp...cai is worthless in my opinion

No on the fist one.

Who knows? On the second.

I don't know if you're getting a meaningful extra amount of air into the motor with the CAI vs. the stock airbox given that the car is FI.

Turbo engines tend to respond more to removing restriction on the exhaust side of the motor vs. the intake side. That's probably a better place to chase horsepower.

I'm gonna try the cai setup mainly for the looks and sound.. and because its probably a little better than the stock box. I'm not trying to get into the cai vs sri debate, and because I don't plan on doing any heavy modding, the injen seems like a good bolt on..

I'm waiting to see the AEM SRI. If it has a heat sheild, I might be interested in that one.

I have an Injen CAI and it sounds sweet and looks great. I would definately go with the CAI and its worth the money to me. Also I dont think you will need to take it off everytime you go to the dealer. I have already been there a few times with it on and they havent said anything about it so unless I have some major problems there is no need to take it off especially if your goin in just for an oil change or something.

I just put the injen on and it works good. You might be disturbed by the flock of turkes under the hood though. You can really hear the air being sucked in, so it seems like it is doing its job

i have heard mazda dealers document any modifications they find, just in case u turn around and try to get warrenty work done for a whatever reason. they can then pull up the documentation and denie u the free work.

Don't worry about taking off the intake when you get service. This should never void your warr.

Also reguarding the CAI or a Short. You want a CAI always. The air going to the turbo will start out cooler therefore getting into the engine cooler. It's true the turbo will heat it up some but your still starting out colder in the begining. With a SAI you are starting out with hotter air which the turbo will heat even more.
