Just the Facts:
  • Ford unveiled its new Police Interceptor sedan today.
  • The new police car is based on the Taurus, and replaces the Crown Victoria.
  • Two engine options: 263-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 or 365-hp 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6.

LAS VEGAS Ford, the master of the universe when it comes to the law-enforcement vehicle segment, took the wraps off its new Police Interceptor sedan on Friday. It said the new cop car will be "offered without interruption when production of the Ford Crown Victoria ends in late 2011."

Ford also said it will provide a second model, a "utility vehicle that will be pursuit-rated to complement the sedan." The second vehicle will be revealed in the third quarter of 2010, Ford noted.

Details of the new Ford Police Interceptor include a virtual ground-up redesign of the cabin, including such touches as "anti-stab plates" built into the front seatbacks. Ford said in a statement that these are "designed to protect front-seat occupants." The front seats have also been redesigned to accommodate the belts with holsters worn by officers.

The Interceptor sedan comes with two powertrain options, a 263-hp 3.5-liter V6 and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with all-wheel drive that churns out 365 hp. The engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

^^ Any for that matter :).

Looks mean, I was wondering about the shifter, some things never change, I guess they need all the space they can use...

this just gave me a reson to buy a Sho.

ecoboost engines will be *everywhere*= cheap aftermarket + buttloads of support.

lovin the computer setup and the dashcam. Two way radio seems kind of hidden and the rack that the AR is in seems like too much work to get out when they need it...overall nice upgrade. Back to the radio, Im kind of surprised there is an old school two way radio with all of the upgrades in there, figured there would be a "voice on command" type setup in there.

although it can be ordered from ford, *most* agencies outfit their own vehicles with their own equipment, so it makes sense for them to showcase it. 2-way is nice and reliable anyway, I don't know of any agency that uses a talk to broadcast feature in their radios.

yeah, that's true, plus it saves money using their own stuff and the 2 way is reliable. just figured the hands free operation would be more of a convenience for law enforcement. Maybe one day, they will upgrade. Hell, they are already upgrading their sirens... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVdUUyGrz2o

If only the SHO came with three pedals.

I actually wouldn't *really* mind driving the 6speed rev-match auto the sho has.. can still have a decent amount of fun, then when you're ready to go to work just throw it in auto for some nice MPG. MTX's are a dying breed anyway. As soon as a chip comes out and the ecoboost starts to make 400+HP I'm not sure either of us will mind anyway.(eekdance)

My step-dad the state trooper is excited about this, he had a Charger when they were first released in like 2006 or whatever and hated it and gave it back for a crown-vic for some reason all the police officers I know love the blue oval.

I hope their pursuits never involve any turning. If those seats were any less bolstered they'd be convex. (scratch)
