Great news, the new clutch is holding! I've gone all the way to 20psi and man oh man does this thing haul!!

400whp is the goal. I think after tidying up the AFR's and some more boost, it will be achievable.

Nice build.
Read the whole thread and such excellent updates to a genuinely fantastic car that's been taken to the next level and then some.

Having bought a Protege recently and now deep diving into the history and lore of the Protege lineage it really is a legend nobody remembers. 🫤

I'm bringing mine to full mechanical restoration mode like I did with my '93 Paseo.
$1,800 spent on the car with no rust and 95k miles and spent another $3,800 on parts that'll take it to another 100k miles all the while enjoying this icon everyone has forgotten.

Good to see life left in this platform and those that take it to the ultimate level because they can.

Looking forward to more posts and continued success with your build. 🙏🏽

New compressor housing for the EFR 7163 arrived. It's the SX-E version which increases the inlet diameter from 2.5" to 3.5", adds anti-surge ports and eliminates the integral BOV.

Reason for swapping covers was due to lower rpm (sub 4K) surging and fluttering, reminiscent of the stock MSP turkey sounds, of which I dislike....a lot.

After searching online, I've found this is a known thing with the larger 71mm compressor wheel in the compact B1 EFR housing. The SX-E housing should eliminate this along with increasing airflow efficiency.

I'm really liking how it looks, also happy there are no clearance issues between the radiator and engine block!

Will be installing a 3" to 3.5" transition coupler to adapt the intake to this new compressor housing. Later on I will probably build a new 3.5" or 4" intake.
