Has anyone had this TSB done for frequent shifting from 6 to 5 during highway driving?

I notice this, but does the TSB simply reduce the sportiness or is a valid upgrade to improve the shifting?

Subject:
BUSY SHIFT FROM 6TH TO 5TH GEAR DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING
Bulletin No: 05-007/07
Last Issued: 08/23/2007
Service Bulletin Mazda North American Operations

2007 CX-7 - BUSY SHIFT FROM 6TH TO 5TH GEAR DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007 CX-7 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3ER******172631 (produced before June 7, 2007)
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain of a busy shift from 6th to 5th gear at highway speed. This is due to the characteristics
of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) calibration. The TCM setting emphasizes acceleration, a
slight depression of the accelerator pedal creates a shift from 6th gear down to 5th gear.
The TCM logic has been modified, specifically, the hill climb judgement parameters have been changed to
reduce sensitivity.

Considering when I took mine in for the recall, if it was the updated to the latest, the tranny kicks down faster, but also goes into the higher gears faster, it also will hold 3rd gear for a short time, for spirited passing, if you need to let off then go back on it, no lag for the tranny kicking down.

I like it.

Ok, sounds promising. I believe this is not the first TSB to address Transmission, does it build on the previous one or is they fix different issues? I had the lag below 2500 reflash done, but to my knowledge none of the transmission ones. My vin is above ..143000, would you advise to get each TSB that applies or just the latest one?

When you go in and ask for the TCM to be reflashed they will update you to the latest one, because every time a new reflash is introduced, the old ones are canceled out.

Had the car in for the recall 4807H and 4907H notices.

Also asked them to reflash the TCM as per this bulletin.
BUSY SHIFT FROM 6TH TO 5TH GEAR DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING
Bulletin No: 05-007/07

They have stated:
PCM updated for busy shift as per bulls 05-07-11
F0010XFX Reflash PCM

So would you think they have done the right thing? I asked for a TCM update

There are no stickers on the door

Instructions on the TSB sheet state that when the update is performed that a sticker will be placed on the door frame. No sticker= no update in my opinion.

They don't seem to do door stickers, I've had other reflashes before.

I specifically asked for the TCM update, and my VIN qualifies. Is it possible they consider PCM and TCM reflash the same thing, as far as detailing on the work order?

If you've had the recalls done then your transmission should be at the latest flash.

At least my tranny behaves exactly like CX7s=Love said and I didn't ask for anything other than the recalls.

Agreed, I had the latest reflash, and the recall work done. The shift points to higher gears are earlier under normal acceleration and it holds 6 longer when speeding up. Also noticed the improved performance for passing.

It seems to have a quick surge off the line too, and a different sound to the engine, gruffer? Wonder if the recall work changed fuel settings

Excellent progress Mazda!

Got the recalls done this morning and it may be all in my head but the car seems more responsive now :) I'm not complaining, now I just hope that my gas mileage will improve as others have said has happened s/p reflash. I drive 90% interstate at 80mph and my gas mileage has been 18-19mpg which is s*** IMO for a four cyl. turbo or not...

Did this TSB months ago. Even in the very hilly central MO, the tranny will not easily downshift to 5th. No more gear hunting or bucking in 6th. Amazing the hill climbing ability of this car in 6th with 4 people in it! Awesome torque.

After reflash the car seems to drive better, smoother I would say and I don't notice the turbo lag from a start anymore. Gas mileage seems slightly better although still not great...but it is getting cold now here in NE Kansas so that could be part of it.

I just got my vehicle back and had the TCM recall reflash done. In addition; I have the PCM updated to the latest one. The AT, once in 6th gear is more reluctant to slip back into fifth at the slightest incline. The PCM update seems to be smother but, it could be all imaginary at this point. I never did realize any hesitation on acceleration. Well worth the 2 hours spent at the dealer. IMO. Ed

Since this hasn't been touched in a month plus I'll update.

This morning I had the dealership reflash my TCM with the current update. I was having the jumping tranny. After the reflash it holds sixth constant, it seems to have two power bands (rpm ranges) that it alternates between. One around 2500 @ 73mph and another at 2200-2100 at 68mph. These were rough estimates on my interstate travel home. In town it accelerate through the gears quick and efficiently. Overall, the engine has more pep and seemingly better shifting characteristics.

Thanks,
Staton
