Bronze MS6 Wheels.....56K beware

:
Mazdaspeed 6
ok so i wanted to paint my rims BRONZE and they came out looking like this. the lid on the can was a different color but i cant decide if i like it yet or not. my fav part is the black contrast of the mazda centercaps and the lug nuts. it took about 9 hours total between sanding, primer, paint, and clear coat. i also left them fully dry over night.

P.S. Tint is the only thing left i have to do before im completely "Murdered Out"

to be honest i can see missed spots behind the spokes and inner barrel...

what was your prep process? that paint will just start to flake off over time, especially on the inner barrels where its thin.

however i do like how you painted the center caps. some people (most) just either paint them the same color as the wheel, or leave it silver (which looks stupid imo)

Any painted rim will flake. He will need to freshin them up every year, no question. Came out ok though, I have seen a lot worse! Paint looks even where it counts.

yah i realized after i missed a few spots but its barely noticeable unless your upclose and looking. i sanded for like 4 hours and then primered, 2 coats of paint, 2 coats of clearcoat, and then let them dry overnight.

thanks bro. eventually i will get them powder coated the color i want but this was a decent temporary solution.

looks good, i want to powder coat mine as well, did you get pics of the prep ??
Love to see how they hold up

Should have done your rotors! Would have looked killer!

Could you list the materials you used ?? (sand paper grit, paint, clear) I assume you left the tires on the rims ?

used 60grit foam sanding block, 1 coat of rustoleum automotive primer, 2 coats of rustoleum metallic paint, 2 coats of rustoleum matte clear coat. just did the playing card trick around the lip of the rim and wrapped the tires in saran wrap rather then masking them off. total cost was like 40 bux.

I like it. Looks great on an otherwise blacked out car.

Edit: ^^^ Oh hey, I had to go back and look at the brake light, how'd you manage that one?

I'm sorry to tell this bro, but I'm going to have to still this idea from you. I love that color on the wheels. Time to sell the R1 Hypes!!!

Sexy. I love bronze wheels on these cars. Im gonna be putting a set of bronze rota tarmac 3's on mine soon when my tires wear out :)
