Breather Filter

Has anyone replaced their PCV valve cover return line with a breather filter and capping off the hole in the intake pipe? It's the line that comes out the right side of the valve cover back into the intake tract. I did this to keep the throttle plate from gumming up with oily residue and I'm seeing if anyone else noticed it improved the throttle response or if it's just in my head.

The purpose of this line is to scavenge the hot blowby gases back into the intake tract for emissions purposes which also allows oil film build up on the throttle plate and intake manifold. So my theory here is that no more hot oily air is going back in the engine, and cooler air is better since rich a/f cars like cold air.

*edit*
Found a similar thread but using a catch can

Looks like I'll be getting an oil catch can.

Took a rubber cover and put it over the fitting on the plastic intake pipe where the rubber hose from the valve cover would have went. There are two hose openings. 1 for the bypass valve, 1 for the valvecover breather. They are right after the MAF sensor.

A nicer can would be the Greddy one, the one I'm planning on getting.

So basically the return line after the filter is also capped off. What did you use to close the hose up? Or is it free flowing. Thanks

I'm running a breather filter on my MSP as well. Of course I'm running a whole different setup than from the factory.

I would say it would be better to keep that line. With a turbo car those gases that build up in the engine are greater than in a NA engine. You want to be sucking those gases out of the engine.. Its there for a reason. Anyway do you know how long it would take for you throttle body plate to gum up bad, it would take 10s of thousands of mile before it happens. Anyway you should clean your throttle plate every 15,000 mile anyway. You can buy the cleaner at pepboys or any car parts store..

Yea the reason is for emissions nothing else.

The hose is removed completely. Breater filter attached to valve cover and cappped on the intake pipe fitting. I was checking a product description on the Greddy catch can. All it does is basically the same setup I have except it catches any oil that comes out so it don't get on the engine if it comes out the filter. All it does is routes a line from the valve cover to the catch tank and the intake fitting is capped off.

I replaced the hose on my old MX-6 with a breather filter and it made my car leak oil like a b****!

I was told that they work on a vaccum, so when you take that vaccum away, pressure builds up and it makes s*** go wrong.

All I know is when I hooked it back up the normal way my oil stopped leaking...If anything, i would go with a catch can.

And yet you're on here with the page and a half long disclaimer so Mazda wont void your warranty.....
