Bov

should this go in the performance section or the forced induction section?

all this moved thread s*** is ******* retarded.

i want a BOV so it will sound "cool"

as for the drive around it, i totally agree, and for that reason will stick with my stock bpv

N1XRR posted about a check valve in the vacuum line to prevent stalling. don't know much else but it's supposed to stop the stalling problem.

Like Jus10 MSP said you can run a hose to recirculate and you won't have any problems again. It is near to how stock was, still get the cool sound (though I think that it is not as loud) and no stalling issue to say the least. You can drop it into neutral all you want and no stalling! Plus the great thing is that later on if you want to disconnect the hose and just have the BOV there for show....well easy cheesy!

problem with the hks though....when you recirculate you have to take out the fin insert to put in hks's recirculating fitting. by doing so, you lose hks's recognizable whistle....it just sounds like a loud blitz bov then.....

AHHH, I see. I have the Greddy so it doesn't have that. And you know I should be more up to par on this stuff considering that I just read about BOV's in Sport Compact.

I will try and drop some BOV knowledge:

With a MAF equiped car you will need to stick with a "diaphram type" BOV these include the Greddy, HKS SQV and SSQV.

The other type "Piston Type" BOV will not seat propperly after the spring gets worn. When the piston stops seating propperly there is a leak at WOT and idle which leads to the constant stalling.

I have the HKS SQV on my MAF equipped 240sx and have never stalled. The key is to tighten it down some and adjust it so it opens at propperly but is tight enough to prevent any and all leaks

Hks makes the pieces you need for the stalling prob. it attaches to the center of the bov and sucks the air once blowed off back into the intake. Diverter valve. Its like 12 bucks. ezy fix....

just buy the greddy 1" recirculation fitting and tada....a diverter valve!

like zooming said, hks makes this piece too but like i said, you gotta remove the fin insert which gives the whistle sound to do so. if you wanna hear how it sounds, check out www.blowoffvalves.com. there's a celica on there running with no fin insert....sounds kinda crappy if you ask me.

no, the greddy type s is a true bov. but you CAN recirculate it so you could turn it into a bpv/dv (whatever you wanna call it).

all i have too say is nomatter what u have to recirculate the bov on the msp to keep it from stalling if u dont ur going to stall and i like my stock one right now i say u save ur money and put it towards some better mods thats just what i think

^^^
The first part of what you said has been proven false, but the last part has been true from day one. A BOV will *not* enhance the performance on your car one little, tiny, teenie bit! (Unless you're running 20psi, then the BOV would probably hold boost better, and work faster) I bought a replacement to test if the turkey sound would go away...nope. Now, though...I can adjust the tightness of my DV to change the sound a little (not much).

If changing the sound is all you want to do, then by all means, get a BOV...JDM Sam, RX-Kevin and a few others have working BOVs that don't stall very often, if at all. You can run it...just make sure you know what you're doing and it'll be fine!

i got the forge motorsports DV which is pistion style.
there is really no stalling issues only excepts when i'm boosting and drop it into neutrual in which it will stall.
after putting the DV in i have had no more bogging issues which to me means that the stock BOV was leaking and just sucked.

greddy type s bov setup

here is my greddy type s bov setup its recirced, sounds really nice even tho its still a gobble stalls occationally when i dump to neutral.

Hey guys here is an e-mail from Rob at www.blowoffvalve.com

Chris,

What I wanted to find out was the diameter of the bypass valve itself. I am 99% sure that the Supra kit is the one you want.

This is the kit that you are going to use:

http://members.cox.net/935motorsports/images/greddytypesfd3s.jpg

As you can see it would slip into the turbo side hose with the small diameter port. Then the outlet port of the bov we will put a similar sized adapter to get it down to your valve size. This will allow you to route it like stock or cap one end and route it to air.

The cost is $250 for the kit and fitting.
