To update, I checked my CEL and it turns out that I was running rich. So, I tore out my Unichip that was never tuned by the shop that I took it too. Took the car for a test drive after and did several runs with my car to make sure the hesitation didn't return and it didn't. Now that my car is running well I won't me modding it anymore and have a few things to sell to get some money for school. First thing to go will be my Unichip. In case anyone is interested I'll be putting it up for sale at some point this week.

u sure it jus didnt hesitate or lag cause it was kinda cool outside? or less humid? i know here in sc it is BURNING!!!!!! lol and damn man unichip is supposed to be top of the line stuff!!!! lmao sucks that you gettin rid of stuff.. but gald ur prob is solved.. im still in the same positon of bad runnin car!! lmao
@ justanothermp5 ok jus hit me up when ur free and in the mean time i might try and do it my self.. might hit u up on how to tune tho..

Are you just running stock ecu now? I don't want to burst your bubble or anything but if you are, it's likely that you'll get a hesitation again. Most people who experience this hesitation are running the stock ecu it was this way for me as well. I know you said you don't want to mod anymore but you might want to pick up an ssafc. You can tune it yourself until your afrs are perfect (if you have a wideband). Just a suggestion cuz the hesitation will be even more annoying if it comes back lol.

Yes get your ssafc in there asap! And then make (not until you install the wideband of course) or find a good map for your car and I guarantee it will solve most of these dirveability problems.

i hope so... justanother has an ssafc wit a good tune but hes still havin a problem too!! but he has big stuttering problem.. so idk but i might go ahead and try and hook in the wideband today... then i might try and do the ssafc myself tomoro so soo... ive read 2 differ methods on how to instal it... solder or tap... which should i doo?

Solder would probably be the best option though going be a more permanent solution. I tapped mine in

you could prob just use some wire taps, just make sure they have a good connection, sometimes i use wire taps and the metal piece doesnt go all the way through the insulation

and im pretty sure i figured out my stuttering problem, i think my fuel pump is bad, going bad, or has a short in the system somewhere

okay cool thanks for the tips.... also i hooked up the wideband up a little while ago... at idle im 14.5 to 15.2 when i go into boost it goes to 10.0!! if iirc.. the lower the afr's the richer you are and vice versa for being lean? and it also reads 10.0 while its still boggin down or laggin and all...

Would a ECU flash at Mazda cure hesitation on the stock ECU if it comes back?

didnt think of that!? does any one know if our cars run open loop when cold??

Yes it runs open loop when cold. Yor arfs are likely below 10:1 especially when it hesitates. Get your afc in there and get a good tune and you'll be a lot more happy lol. So far with my pipes wrapped and a good tune my car and it's been running great around 11:1 afr.

@Justin - I'd be careful running 12:1 afrs that's getting in the aggressive zone. Just though I'd mention it.

@b dues - the reflash won't do anything for the hesitation. My car was reflashed and it didn't help at all.

awesome!! i didnt know that!! lol and cool so a good tune should help then!! i went to autozone today to get some heat wrap but the s**** 50 bucks!!!! what did u use?? like what brand?

well im at 11-12, im only at 12 like around 4-5 psi and then it slowly declines toward 11 the higher i get

just start with the superstock map and then start leaning/adding fuel wherever it bogs down or pings
i doubt you'll even want to tune to be honest, the superstock map is pretty awesome lol

i got a forged motor and low compression, i should be fine running 12

oh sorry, didn't realize your motor was forged.

I used "cold tape" made by DEI it was $25 for a 1.5" by 15 foot roll. I just picked it up at a local shop but here's a link to the stuff I bought. I wanted to try the gold stuff but they couldn't get it... http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/dei-cycle/insulating-materials/cool-tape

I would shoot for 10.5-11.5 afrs when you tune the map. Any higher is getting risky and isn't really gonna add much more power anyway. But like justan said the stock super map is a very good place to start. After you drive on that map for a bit you might notice some spots that you'll want to try and change the afrs. But the super map should be quite an improvement.
