ok i have a turboxs boost controller..i want to put it to around 8-9psi...but now im readin about blown engines..will 8-9 psi really **** up my car..or wont harm it????

don't risk it. unless you want to rebuild your engine like i did.

that will cost well over $2500.
im 20, let me tell you, it may bring a few minutes of satisfaction and enjoyment UNTIL you see oil coming out of the throttle body. I paid my engine bill out of my own pocket, while in college. i stayed home while my friends ate out, went to movies, and I am here 3 months later, PAID OFF. do you want to risk that?

DONT DO IT.

fill up with 116 octane fuel. that will reduce risk. is that too expensive? then you cant afford rebuilding your engine. then you KNOW you shouldn't risk it.

Just giving helpful advice :)

enjoy the car.

do you only have a boost controller?

8-9 is fine just get a set of colder NGK plugs.

little quick photomax ha

8-9 should be fine. He's not trying to boot 10 or even 12. People on these forums are running 10-12 with no problems and others have had disaster. 8-9 should be ok for him. Just make sure to use the highest octane avail and change to colder plugs.
(I'm running 9.5)

buy colder plugs, get a turbo timer/boost gauge, set it where its 8.5 on daily driving boost with spikes in the 9 area, you should be fine.

when you come back we'll say we told you so :p

boosting in the area of 2psi over stock with colder plugs almost negates the risk of detonation.

i can guarantee most of the people who have blown engines either A) were far above 8-9psi or B) Lied and said they were in that area.

7 months and 18k miles at 8.5 psi and not a problem *knock on wood*

You have read the posts. It's Russian roulet. Do it if you want but I would upgrade a couple of things before playing with pressure. FMIC, Fuel Delivery, etc.

Later...Brian...Good Luck In Search Of Boost.

brian is right. some people have luck with 12 psi. some people get detonation easy at 8. dont risk it.

the thing is, we talk as if we are speed demons. we arent. stock is fine unless you are willing to pay for upgrades (or a new engine, whichever)

but seriously: if you really need to ask if it is safe, you shouldnt be doing it.

While I am not boosing the PSI, with different plugs and what not you SHOULDN'T have a problem at 8PSI..

Man, but don't come crying to me if you throw a rod.

I have about 30,000 miles on my car and I honestly drive it hard as s*** (why I bought it) and I have had the boost consistantly up to 10-14 psi daily, I have hit fuel cut more than 100 times and the car is just as strong as when I bought it, stock plugs and all (I do need motor mounts, rear sway bar bushings, and a clutch, but that all comes with the territory.) if you have a turbocharged mp3 or pro5 and your engine failed then there is a mp3 forum and a pro5 forum that you can share your experiences.

check out knock sensors if you're going to increase boost....still risky since you're engine can go boom on knock #1.

no but kevin, i understand what you are saying, but you haven't torn apart the internals to see how 'strong' it still is or how much carbon build up you have. point being, don't risk it unless you
1) know how to rebuild an engine
2) have the tools to rebuild
3) have the money to rebuild
4) have the time to rebuild

if you really want, i can show you what happens when you mess with your engine.
