hey just kind of wondering what amount of boost is safe. . . im running 10 psi and spike at 11 how much do you guys boost in your msp?

so you're running 10psi without supporting mods? i don't recommend turning up the boost levels unless you have upgraded a few parts ... especially SMIC/FMIC, some kind of ems, exhaust.

edit:
i'm running:
10psi
Unichip
Injen CAI
Turbohoses SMIC
Turbohoses hardpipes

holdin 10psi, spiking to 11.
fmic
mpi with 2 extra injectors
full exhaust
check the sig for the rest of the mods
craig

i usually like to keep mine at 20, but on rowdy days i bump it to about 25, 26ish. my car is covered in stickers so im sure i wont have a problem with supporting mods

Could one turn up the boost to 7.5 with a cat-back and a CAI/SRI?
Also I've heard different opinions, is their a general trend in what a CAI or SRI, a Cat-back, or hp per psi more? I've read that the Injen intake gives about 10whp, sound about right? (assume 93 octane). I love the MSP but I'm afraid of the engine. going past 8psi.

pretty much any gains from a CAI (or SRI) are negligible on this car. Possibly 1 or 2 hp, but really, as an independent mod, won't do much.

Really, so it's just a good supporting mod, what about a good cat-back? Aftermarket on custom mandrel bend better? Gains?

a free flowing exhaust is prob one of the best mod you can do on a turbo car. of course, that comes with a cost and sacrifice in noise levels.

personally, i don't care much for the noise. that's why i have a stock MSP exhaust. :) although a mid-pipe may be coming soon.

There is no substitute for the full turbo-back 3" stainless exhaust by GHL like myself and many others have. If you are going for performance, you need to start at the exhaust, especially the S-pipe. The stock Callaway S-pipe is restrictive, thus makes it harder for the motor to exhaust air. I have a manual boost controller set to 9 - 10 psi with the GHL exhaust and a Injen CAI and to be honest, I love the way it feels. Ask people that ride with me... it's pretty quick. I will upgrade to a bigger SMIC or possibly a FMIC. Not sure yet.

Good point but those of us in emission states have to watch out for what mods we do. Getting rid of the 1st cat near the manifold would be a bad thing here in MA, so we have to settle for a Catback, and maybe a high-flow cat, unless their is some emission legal turbo back that I don't know about.

i work at a mazdaspeed dealership with certified techs...on stock motor you can spike up to 13.1 lbs and still be safe!

haha your new right? no way in HELL can a stock motor take 13 psi. MIGHT spike for a brief second but now more than that.

read up on this forum. a MSP won't last long at 13.1 lbs consistently. where'd you get the 0.1 psi from? LOL

Mazdaspeedwerx ran his w/ stock internals @ 16 psi or 15psi at the track if I'm not mistaken...fast as hell

riight, but doing it daily or doing it on and off for a while, will weaken the rods, it becomes a ticking timebomb so to speak.

Yep - it's Russian Roulette on the stock internals...
