Bluetooh problems

We just purchased a 2009 CX-9 Touring. Last night I successfully paired a cell phone and then today my wife was unable to use it. I went back and unpaired it and then when I tried to pair again, I am unable to do almost anything with bluetooth.

I say setup at the first beep and then pairing options. Then I say pair and I do not get the prompt to set a passcode or any prompt for that matter. IT just seems to stop. I tried setting the passcode by saying passcode and it steps me through, and I say a four digit number. Then it just stops working before it says back the number I chose.

It seems to me that something is very wrong with the system. Is there any way to do some kind of reset of the system?

I do not want to have to bring this back to the dealer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Phil

First, I have a 2008 GT. The BT system of 2009 is slight different now so I might not be able to help you.
Are you 100% sure you unpaired it?
You might want to unpair it again just to be sure.
Second, check the BT settings of your cell phone. Some phones have many small tedious stuff that can be set (like auto drop after X seconds, etc. stupid things).
Also, does your CX9 support A2DP (audio streaming)? If so, does your cell phone also support it? I learned (from elsewhere) that if A2DP does not match, the BT behaves strangely.

Thanks for the response and I will try to unpair again, although I suspect it is more than that, since it seems that the system just stops working during programming. Anyway, I have the Touring CX-9 without the navi and according to the documentation, I do not have A2DP. I have HFP and DUN and that is it.

Thanks again.

I had the same problem with my bluetooth, but I have the GT w/ nav. It would hang on me at the exact same point when I tried to re-pair the phone with the car. I had some issues with deleting the phone too. I had to turn the car off and then turn it back on again to get the phone to disappear from the list of devices. After that I was able to re-pair the phone with the car, although I did it using the screen rather than with the voice recognition system, so that's not an option for you. It took me 20 minutes of dickering with it, but I was able to eventually get there. Not the easiest thing to deal with, I know. Try deleting and then turning the car off and repairing to see if that helps.

There is a HF/TEL diagnostic test mode to inspect the internal DTC (error codes).
I am not sure if it will help, but give it a try. It does not hurt anything...
................................................................................................................................................................................

Starting Procedure for On-board Diagnostic Test Mode [Hands-Free Telephone (HF/TEL) System]

Note: All DTCs displayed in the on-board diagnostic test mode should be entered in the Audio Repair Order Form

Standard Audio
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or ON position
2. Turn the POWER(audio) button off
3. While pressing the POWER(audio - to turn in on this time) button,
simultaneously press the RPT button and the PRESET 2 buttons for 3secs or more
Note: If several DTCs are in the memory, they can be displayed using the SEEK button (up or down)
4. To stop the on-board diagnostic test mode, turn the ignition switch off.

Touch Panel Type Audio
... (different from the above, but omited here)

If you see any DTC codes displayed, let me know the codes.
I will explain what they mean to you.
The code should be in a format like:

>>> 10:00C 26:Er81
C: present malfunction
26: HF/TEL unit
81: code types
