Blown Motor!!!!!

My BP isn't all that much different than any other BP, just higher compression pistons and a better-flowing head.

I wouldn't blame the BP itself though, my car was a leased business car before I bought it so I doubt it was treated very well if the oil had even been changed at all. So I didn't pay close enough attention to the oil and it burned enough to run itself low on oil. Any motor will **** up without sufficient lubrication. So check your oils more often than you are kids.

I was just unlucky enough and unwise to purchase such a car. And it's not like the car showed any weirdness during the pre-sale inspection and multiple drives...

Edit: I'm more than happy with my new motor and it doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes.

what are the BP's?
1.8 BP-ZE, BP-DE, BPT etc that came in 90-94 Proteges, 91-96 Escorts and Tracers and 94-present Miatas.

The BP-ZE is the best, as it has a long nose crank, Main Bearing Support Plate, forged cranks and rods, piston squirters etc. The 99+ Miata version have the best heads. These engines are capable of 400hp on the stock bottom ends. The BPT had a 170 and 210 horsepower versions, both turbo. The 210hp version has massive rods, web stiffened block and sodium filled exhaust valves as well. That baby could easily handle 500hp, maybe more.

Would the BPT drop right in ours?

the only thing I had done to engine is CAI, but they said that didn't matter. Mazda has been real cool even got me a rental car. What do you guys think that does to resell value. its gotta go up right?

Valuation is a tricky thing...
On the one hand, it'll be a new engine with zero miles on a low production speciality model. Sometimes this is enough to maintain or even inflate the value a little.

On the other hand, there's the stigma that there was:
(a) something wrong enough with the engine to need replacing...so what's the rest of the car going to be like?
(b) poor engine maintenance...again, how will that impact the rest of the car?
(c) excessively hard driving...this will impact other components and potential buyers might get spooked

And given enough time/registrations/inspections etc, it might trigger an odometer "flag" on something like Carfax.

Im almost sure ourt transmissions will bolt into it.

Its the passenger side engine support that may not bolt...so I dont know about it.

You can make it fit. It's not a direct swap, but you can make anything fit if you try. You can even fit the KL-ZE in the new cars if you wanted. If you bought a BPT, I'd use a G25M-R tranny, the one found in the 92-94 Proteges. They're the strongest, capable of 300lb/ft. You can't use the G25MX-Rs that come with the BPT, as it's an all wheel drive tranny. Well, I guess you could if you plugged the driveshaft hole. It does have limited slip.....

ive had 2 engines replaced under warranty due to rod bearings spinning...never knew it was an oil problem tho...maybe ill bring that up to them if i have it happen again b4 my warranty goes out..my luck it will go after the warranty is gone

Damn, I think I just blew out my bearing... I would notice that occasionally when I made a turn, the oil pressure light would flicker on. This sucks!

no. they didn't. i voided my warranty a long time ago..but it should fall under warranty, that is if you still have it..you tear up rod bearings when you turne excessively hard to the left..the oil pick up is on the left side of the oil pan..you actually starve a cylinder.
exactly. its not just proteges either. my brother whacked the engine in his neon the exact same way a few months ago.

that could be:

1. Low Oil
2. Oil pump failure

You should check that ASAP, if you dont, you will lock your engine.

If it's an oil circulation problem(while cornering), perhaps an oil accumulator is in order. :D I've been thinking about one for a while now. The only thing keeping me from doing it it(other than money) is the install looks like it'd be less than fun. But still, it'd be a good upgrade no matter what. Anyone put one in their Protege yet?

I think this happened to my car...taking it to the dealership...the oil light used to turn on sometimes on a turn but would be off in matter of a few seconds....it sounds like a bearing or something clicking.....rpm dependant it gets faster as the rpms go up?? if mazda wont warranty it imma blow up my msp in the mazda parking lot!! j/k (smash)

I just had a friend do this last month on his titanium MSP. Totally stock (only had a turbo timer). After he spun a bearing, the dealer offer to repair it under warranty, but he just traded it in on a Mazda6 instead.

s***. This is making me scared.... It surprises me how many cars are still alive...

I'm curious on the pans, but I'm also curious on the accumulators. I looked into that a bit and looks like you can fit one to the car for probably about 200 bucks. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it overall however.
