so i sent a rod thru cylinder #1 and now i am in need of an engine does anyone know what options i can do. does a regular mazda 3 engine fit or should i just build a block ?

I believe as long as the 3 is a 2.3 model you should be able to use the block and internals, but don't quote me on that. If your looking for a new motor ebay is a good place.

Sorry for your troubles. The block is, apparently, so different between the Speed and the regular 3 you can't use the regular to replace it. I find this a little hard to believe. Granted, there's a cast crank in the regular 3 so, no help there, cast rods and pistons but, those would have to go anyway.

Thanks for all your help guys it was Crazy how it happened too I was on the Atlantic city express way pulled up to the toll booth pulled out shifted at 3000 boom I pulled over and looked around no leaking water and no oil missing , I was confused so we pushed it back in the parking lot and I waited for one of my buddys to come pick me up with a car trailer because I was 120 miles away from home I wasn't goin to pay that tow bill, this woman came out of the toll place and told us we couldn't personally tow from the express way after a couple mins of persuading she let us do it and all together I was broken down and sitting for 8hrs till I was home haha talk about good luck huh

Mods are : CPe nano , rpmc tip, forge wastegate, ATP downpipe catless , vibrant exhaust dp back , forge bpv blue spring , Trz dogbone , pg fmic

Tune accessport stg 2 fmic , my friend tuned it that's what he went to school for never had any knock, fuel trims were always on target , boost was 18psi short spikes to 19 but tapered down quickly, di fuel pressure never below 1700 under wot I thought it was pretty solid

Try a google search for salvaged vehicles. When I was looking for a part for my car, I came across several sites that had full engines for decent prices ($2500-$3500), depending on mileage. I just don't remember what the sites were. Might even be able to get one cheaper than that if you don't want the transmission.

Sorry to hear about the blown motor.
How many miles on the motor before she blew?

The following motors can be swapped as a whole:
Mazdaspeed3, 6 & cx-7 (but cx-7 has a smaller turbo).

Hope the info helps.

I had this happen recently (at an even lower speed of 8MPH pulling out of my driveway) and I contacted Ken at Protege Garage. He found a motor for me and it sent to me for 3500 with 30K on it. Full motor, turbo, intercooler and all. I used a 6 motor and there were a few small difference on the throttle body and cooling system that I noticed so you can just switch them for your parts.

Sorry about your motor, and good luck, I feel your pain.

I'm 99% sure that you can use the block from a mazda3 2.3 but the internals would need to be swapped...

The 2.3 N/A block cannot be used! It lacks oil squirters and has different oil and coolant passages.

So unless you get the heads, ecu and wiring harness with it, it cannot be used.
