Blown headgasket (azian6er)

every dealer has the potential to be different. However I will ask the service advisor tommorow how much he would charge. Then theres the question on whether they would do the work, because they wouldn't really be able to warranty it..... If you built the bottom end of the motor I would say the headgasket should be a walk in the park.......it's just removing a whole bunch of stuff.

yeah, i know, it is just that i have The LSAT comming up on oct. 2nd and i really shouldnt be spending a whole weekend on this crap.

Even if it is modified, will they still DO it, even if they cant warranty it?

Depends on the dealership. I know my service manager would have a hard time with it if I wasn't there. (I get everything that has been modified, usually its vw's though. And yes they have the ability to deny work).

Know that usually for any headgasket job, it ususally is over $1k just for the labor. They go off the hours that a service manual says it will take to complete.

Bryan, when I actually got my s*** fixed (piston) they charged me for a partial headgasket install. I have everything written down, and charges by the book. If you are curious, I think the headgasket by the book is $1400ish, plus parts. I can check if you want me to.

Basically, I need to know how hard it is to do the hg and which would be a good alternative to the stock one.
It's a pain in the ass, and will probably take you a couple of days.

Anyone know how much labor is involved and which one i should go with?
Labor from a DEALER would probably be about $1K.

Also, can i get a thicker one to lower my compression down to 8.5:1 instead of 9:1 now?
Nope, I looked into that. With the small bore that we have, they can't make a gasket thick enough that will do it's job properly and drop us more than .1. :(

you can get a copper one. headgasket is about a 5 hour job.
Jesus Christ himself couldn't swap a headgasket in 5 hours in our cars. I swapped heads a few months back and it took me longer than the entire engine swap did.

so honestly, how long is the process to get the head off? i have heard 5 hours, but some say more then that.

i am suspecting a weekend job, but is this correct?

Also, how much and where should i take the head to get resurfaced?
If you start on a friday night, you can do it in a weekend.

you have to take off the intake manifold to get the head off? I didnt hink that was going to be necessary.
It's not, you can pull it all off in one peice. My intake mani/head/exhaust mani all came off together.

Also it is really necessary to take the cams out to lift up the head? I didnt think that was necessary either.
Yes, or else you can't get to the head bolts. If you don't have an FS motor manual, buy one now.

While you have your intake mani apart, port the extra lips near the flange that bolts to the head...

If you don't have an MP3, you have butterflies in the way there; You could fix that like I did! To be fair, I didn't remove my own butterflies, but I filled the holes where the butterflies passed through the intake, and port-matched the intake manifold to thet gasket with a slight taper. Helps quite a bit on the high end, I must say! Here's the pic of the manifold just before the final touch-up stage:

Yep. Trumpet style, but with a longer progression. I'll need to get the head gasket matched, too, at some point, but that's once I get a new head, and all that.

Just a quick question for you guys. How would you know if you have a blown head gasket or a warped head? I have a rubber coated copper head gasket but don't have much miles on it yet and I have coolant and oil sitting on all 4 of my pistions. I already did the retourqing so I know that it's not that. Which one do you think it is for me? I will be taking the head apart (AGAIN!!!) and will be getting the head decked. What do you think about my head gasket? I don't want to have to buy another head gasket if I don't have to. But then again if I deck the head and then put it back together and it still leaks I will have to take that b**** back apart again. Well I've done this enough times to where I can practically do it in my sleep but it is a pain in the ass to do. So any opinions on what you think it could be? Head or head gasket? I really hope it's not both cause money is kinda scarce right about now.
Just for your info, oil and coolant is not leaking around the outside edges of my head just the inside onto the pistons. What do you think........

Pardon me; I need to get the head's ports matched to the gasket as well. =) I mangled the language a bit there. Hehe.
AHh ok.
