Blow Motor with Zex? How come?

Great message board! Looks full of info for several different Mazdas. I'm new to this board but not to the Pro5 scene - I'm usually on TOprotege.com.

Just a question:

I have read that a few of you have blow your Pro5's FS motor with the Zex Nitrous Kit (50HP Dry shot).

Why did this happen to you?

I know that there have been problems with Fuel Pressure regulator lines blowing and thus leaning out the car but did any of you have any differerent problems? I'd like to know why you blew your motor running the 50HP dry shot and what you should've done to prevent it.

Currently, I'm running a 50hp dry shot of Zex, Zex plugs, Intake and Exhaust cams, AEM intake, Brullen Exhaust (no cat on downtube), and an UR underdrive pulley.

I think this message board is finally getting better w/ this addition of the Nitrous Forum...

With regards to the blown motors using Zex...It happened to people w/ MP3's which have advanced timing...And Zex Kit's Purposely Says not good w/ advanced timing...

The problem that occurs..is that the computer doesn't supply enough fuel which causes a lean condition..and BOOM!

I have a Nitrous Express kit...I am running an MP3 ecu w/ no problems..I am runnig a 50shot..I have ran many bottles through my car but only 1 on the mp3 ecu so far!!

I would suggest stayin away from Zex..Go w/ Nitrous express..Everyone who has NX on their protege/mp3 has had no ill effects..or detonation issues..but it's your call...What your motor worth to you...

My nitrous express kitt cost me under 500shipped to my door..and the shipping was only 3days..which is pretty quick..the install was fairly easy....and it's adjustable from 35-75shot...

Your mods seem fair..but be careful w/ leaning out..and get 1 or 2 step colder plugs!!

*Good luck..You'll Need It!

i have a 75 shot a sprayed and my check engin lite came on any one got any ideas why

yup I found out it messed up my tranny when I sprayed the 75 shot the first time the guy told me to drop it back to 50 shot after I buy a tranny now I have to find one and I can,t

Did you lift your foot between shifts? Did you get tranny cooler?

If not..check out the nitrous forum's sticky...and read up!

Now the zex kit is supposed to have this MNU which prevents problem. But I guess it doesn't work.

#1. If you are going to use a dry nitrous setup, you will need to adjust your base fpr. Theres a kit add-on that sells for ZEX, its a fpr vacuum signal sender. It basically sends air pressure to the stock fpr like if it were running turbo. And its adjustable. I would like to have a picture of my friends car with this setup, 3 years so far, engine still in one piece with a 60shot.
#2. Advanced timing is a big problem. Sometimes even going super duper rich, you may still have pre-ignition problems. I was yesterday tunning a 3psi turbo protege, it was pinging all the gears even with 10:1 A/F on the wideband. Looks like it was bad fuel (Citgo). So, please use 93 or better octane fuel.
