Blew My Engine!!!! Pix too!

I've got the A/F charts to prove my car had a nasty lean condition...stock...and that was at WOT. IMHO, yes, it could have leaned out and detonated.

Sounds like it may have been running rich enough to detonate, too... It can go both ways, remember. Hot spots in the head aren't an unreasonable assumption, either.

Crazy, man.

True. How about we chalk this one up to a crappy mixture or a really weak rod.

LOL Yeah works for me, man. When I hear from the dealership I will let you guys know. I didn't get a chance to look under the car before it was towed, but like I said before - I looked like a huge chunk was missing from above my oil pan.

May the schwartz be with your motors.

that is exactly what happened to my engine and mazda denied warranty because of a CAI. Didn't even check to see if the CAI was at fault, so I might have a Magnusson Moss act case but I dont feel like pursuing it anymore. Anyway here's a pic of my block:

mazda sucks

If you hate mazda so much, why are you on this forum? Do you not have anything better to do? Your comments are in no way constructive and most of us do not care to hear them.

That sucks man!!! Good luck on the warranty! I have been very lucky with mazda, they warrantied my engine at 53,000 miles and the tranny went at 58,000. They even put a aftermarket clutch in for me! Keep us posted! What saved my ass is that I had had all service done by mazda at the scheduled times.

Okay - official cause from Mazda:
"#2 Rod exploded through the block."

They want complete oil change records (as a few of you said they would) or "they probably won't cover the warranty work." There's no possible way I can get records going back 2 years for oil changes I did myself.

The engine was detonating not 4 months ago. Is there any way I can get around the oil change records? I could TRY and get them but I highly doubt I can considering I bought oil anyplace that was handy.

Your reccomendations, guys? I *am* willing to goto court for this one.

They and we both know that oil condition doesn't contribute much to detonation/rod explosing. A rod bearing or something like that would've probably gone bad first in that case. I mean you would have to not change your oil for over 10k miles to get to that state, and even then it would probably burn off way before that mileage requiring you to refill the oil. If that was the case your oil pressure light would have came on. I could be wrong here though.

thats why i pay my dealership to do my oil changes until my warranty is up, that way they have all records

worth the extra cash imo
