blew it

Blew the motor last night. Advance auto has a rebuilt for $2400. but it only shows up for the regular protege. Is it the same motor?

Blew the connecting rod end cap and other pieces/parts thru the front side of the motor(help)

You need a new block aswell as a rebuild kit.

Source out a block, and get forged internals. Take it all to a machine shop and get them to do the work on the block, then install all the parts. ect. ect

Simply put.

Yes they are the same motor(this has been covered time and time again). Please search the differences and what you will need to transfer over from yours to the new donor block.

But as Outlaw suggested, get a new bock and rebuild and go forged. That is what I am currently doing. For the same price you just posted, I am building mine with extras for just under that. WIll be reliable as everything is forged. That is my suggestion as well.

My current total is right at $2100 and that is with the DocB Coated Pump and external PRV, and ARP harware.

Sorry, this my first MSP and I'm getting introduced to the turbo world faster then I would like. Thanks for the help and advise

No problem. I had a 01 Protege before and traded her in. Now after 9 years I am coming back into one but this time an MSP. To tell you the truth, I was going to buy a stock engine and call it a day. But after all the reading on here and knowledgable people, I convinced myself to just go forged. Will save you a bunch of headackes later on. Trust me, you wont regret it. Source out parts from everywhere. Great deals to be had. My block was given to me by a good friend but buyiing a used one can cost you about $100-$300 give or take.

It costed me 1000$ for a longblock. Then Alot more $ for a rebuilt head, 3 angle valve job, K1 long rods/Wisco Pistons w/ .020 overbore, all parts for the rebuild... ect. ect. Costed me 5000$ in total for all parts and machine shop work. The machine shop installed the pistons and stuff for me. Im just bolting everythign together (still in the process of that) haha

Id say go forged to. It may cost a lil more but will pay off down the road. Good luck with the build, and make sure you go to a GOOD machine shop.

Get a block and head (if required) from a junkyard, and put in the wrench time to go forged and you will still end up saving money.

Oh and I didn't mention the total I am spending is with machine work included. The only thing not included is the head work, just to deck it for now, but I want to have it refreshed too.

yup go all out. i have blown two motors already but now im going to get it bullet proof. just look it like this more boost more power faster car. no more boom boom

Got the oil pan off last nite. The #1connecting rod is in 3 pieces, pulled the wrist pin out of the pistion, broke the rod in half and put one continuious hole from the ALT bracket to the PS bracket. Also broke both the brackets. Found a motor in NC. $1100. 90,000 miles, putting forged in it before the install. Does anybody have info on the hoist points and removal?

Yea mine broke right at the rear of the block. I have some parts the prevous owner gave me including the block and a bearing that came out. I have not yet taken it apart but it doesn't look very good. I just hope my MBSP is in good shape.

If I remember correctlry there are two thick metal tabs/ears where the hoist can grab on too.

Here is where you can get the manual.
