howdy,

You guys reccomend the sylvania silverstars over piaa bulbs?

Im lookin to replace my stock headlight and foglight bulbs in my MSP and it just so happens my new impreza has the same bulbs so ill be replacin those at the same time also.

The autozones and NAPAs around me dont have ANY H3s and only a couple different "hyper white, cool bllue" headlight bulbs so I will be buying them online.

Other than powebulbs.com is there another place to go for whatever bulb you are recommending?

Thanks,

Re: brightest/whitest headlight bulb

I'd definitely recommend Silverstars over piaa bulbs. I'd also recommend Osram Silverstars over Sylvania's. The Osram's don't have the blue coating that the Sylvania's have and are therefore noticeably brighter. In addition, the Osram is an E-Spec bulb and has more of a rising characteristic light pattern to the right, thereby illuminating the right side of the road and the shoulder more effectively than the Silverstar will.

You can get the Osrams at www.powerbulbs.com

They have good service and ship quickly.

Re: Re: brightest/whitest headlight bulb

both are silverstars but marketed under different brands and are characteristally very different

and light bulbs do NOTHING to change the beam pattern of the headlight

the PIAA's i have are by far the brightest bulbs i have ever seen..they are 4150K..the silverstars sucked ass in comparison..theMAN is right though, its not going to be drastic, its going be an improvement..but short of HID..its not going to be close..

I see your point about the headlight bulb doing nothing to change the beam pattern of the headlight. I guess the additional illumination I was getting to the right side was a function of the greater brightness and light output of the Osram's rather than a change in the beam pattern. Thanks for clearing up my misconception.

I just got the Osram Silverstars to replace my PIAA's that burned out.
The PIAA's look cooler because the give off a bright white/blueish light but the visibility is better with the Osram Silverstars.

The Silverstars are just barely whiter in color than stock bulbs but they are much brighter.

If you want better visibility get the Silverstars...

If you want the HID-like look but with the same visibility than stock, get PIAA's

They only have H1, H4, & H7 listed for the Osram Silver Stars. Our bulb size is H3, right? So how are you all saying that you got them there?

they have H3s in the Osram drop down on the main page....

I actually just emailed em asking about potential savings if they could do a group buy on the 9003 and H3 Osram Silverstars.

probably no savings but i figured it was worth a shot.

I thinkwe could get a lot of ppl down for it if they were able to offer a discount, especially since my new family over at rs25.com has the same foglight and headlight bulbs as our MSPs

got these...

i jus got the Sylvania Silver Stars for about $40 they are better than stock nice bright white light.... i like em :):D

just to chime in with my opinion.

I have eurodezign bulbs in my car, they kinda sound like a cheap name but from my experiences they are anything but.

I have em in my low beams and fogs, they are rated at 5200k supposedly containing a xenon/krypton gas mix inside. Whether this is true or not I dont know, what I do know is...

I have not had any physical problems with them, ever.(including the 1.5yrs I had em in my eclipse) in 6 months in my pro. They are very bright, more white than blue, if blue at all. Everything on the road is ALOT brighter, especially signs as they light up at least 3 times further away than my stock bulbs.
Also they regularly go for 9.99 plus shipping on ebay and carry a manufacturers lifetime warrenty on them which I dont know if you will find that with most other aftermarket bulb companies.

They also come in tinted bulbs which put out a green, purple, or yellow light and all of them are DOT and SAE approved, the blue ones are actually being used by a sherrifs office somewhere, some of the auctions have copies of the sherrifs office reports on their testing and use of the bulbs.

so for 20bux a pair with that warrenty I cant find anything that beats em.

I am going to be getting new yellow ones for my fog lights once I get the 3m yellow rock guard for the fogs also. and then stick with the blue for highs and lows but they just came out with a 6000k bulb so I might switch to those.

I have pics of my car alone and next to my dads chevy S10 with reg halogens in it for comparison and I can post them tonight when I get home from work.

I know they are not nearly as well known name brand as PIAA or Nokya and others but they have made me happy ever since I bought em.

all different sellers but almost all of them have 300-1000+ feedback...

just my opinion that these bulbs are great, I have heard others b**** about them going out early but personally I think they didnt follow directions and touched the glass part of the bulb during install, on all these aftermarket bulbs you never ever wanna touch the glass cause you leave skin oil there and it will cause a hot spot in the bulb and cause em to burn out or worse, burst.

/end rambling =P
(too much sugar today)

This is directly from sylvania's website:

"What is the life expectancy of SilverStar?

The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the drivers use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions."

One year!:wtf: My stock bulbs are over 2 years old and are still shining bright.

your stocks are just halogen, the silverstars are made to look like xenon HID lights and may have xenon gas inside, 1 yr is pretty good if you ask me since an HID kit for our cars is 300-500 depending on rating and the xenon bulbs I use are 20 shipped per pair....I could burn out a dozen in 12 yrs and still be better off price wise than an HID kit, and then there are all the problem and legal issues with HID's.

I think it is worth it.
Mine survive for over a yr in AZ heat and I think thats impressive.

yes but they are made completely differently, explainging the completely different light output.
still an aftermarket bulb.

hmmm don't be crazy now

slug didn't someone already set up a group buy - try searching or looking in the gb section???
i did it, i think i had to email them back and powerbulbs.com organised a refund to your credit card
