going to be working on motor mounts... if i can even mount the motor in the car... then its impossible.,.. wondering if putting the mx-6 motor mounts would work.. hmmm

I did read somewhere in another thread (can't remember where) that the KL doesn't require any mount work... the protege mounts work... not 100% sure on this (i've never seriously looked at this conversion for my own purposes)... but thats the story i've heard...

i'll find you the post, and you can chat to the poster about where he's getting his info :)
 
The kl motors bolt directly to the mounts for the fs-de. The motor and trans fit. The axles from the protege can be used. it's a drop in thing, except the hell that the wiring is going to be.
 
man I don’t have internet for one weekend and all this information pops up...

awesome... this is going great... w/o internet... I was going around shops here locally and found a mechanic for the job... he works with rotaries more than anything but he knows a lot about the Mazda motor... especially the KL and would be interested to do this job, thus he said he'll do it cheap... he was telling me about maybe putting the MX-3 1.8V6 motor in there... but it won't have as much power...... if I’m putting a V6... I’m sacrificing the I4's gas mileage, so I would like the power....

I also got an insurance quote for the damage that was dealt with on my car... and since they’re not going to replace anything but the bumper and the energy absorber ad the left tail light assembly, it’s not that big of a quote. With help from fellow members, I am able to get cheaper parts... stock parts at least... I wonder how much an aftermarket bumper will get me... and oh yea... I need a rill and aftermarket taillights... I was thinking of putting those ALtezza Taillights and tinting them black, unlike the ones I had before were smoked... and since I got pulled over for those taillights because they were so dark... im going to tint them very lightly... even though its illegal to tint them, I think up to a certain point... and get LED for my turn signals, brakes, and reverse lights so it ill shine through... there’s the update

hmm... if the stock axles can be used... i should just try to get aftermarket axles... maybe those from PG i saw earlier... hmmm...
the carbon fiber ones from DG in PG are cheaper than the painted ones... i'll prolly look into getting my hood partial painted black like rednecks r us, i really like his paint job... to top it off.. maybe have part of my hatch painted black... i saw an EP3 Si with that combo and i thought it looked sweet... really slick... i'll photoshop it today and upload the pic... i really want to know how it looks...

From the info thats been gathered thus far, the KLZE is viable, and known to work. Not sure if the 1.8L V6 will be the same.... and really, whilst it might be "easier" to get the 1.8L V6 to 180hp, getting an overbored to 2.7L KLZE V6 to 270hp will make the whole car just that much more insane.

Look into some weight reduction - you're adding 60lbs by going to the KL, and the lighter you can get the car, the faster it will be... i see no reason why you couldn't get your ride, on a diet, down the quarter in the mid 12 second zone, or faster.

as far as stronger/beefier axles go - axles are relatively cheap and easy to deal with - i'd keep the stockos. If you bust them, swap out to something that is more heavy duty.... but for the time being, i'd concentrate on the motor, and getting that side of things done.....
 
i just realised, what the hell am i going to do with my FS-DE motor once the KL-ZE is in? Now i have to get different parts maintenance wise for the KL-ZE... will USDM parts work? hmmm...
 
My best advise to you. Become a member on Probetalk.com me saying that shouldnt be a problem since its not a "Mazda" forum
Its a community of alot more people who know alot more about the KL and have tried alot more things then here.
Also research alot before asking questions. Just a few threads you may be interested in over there. Just to save you some searching.

Yes usdm parts work with the jdm parts. The only usdm parts you would really want to use would be the retainers. If I were you and were going to use the klze for this build I would look into the following.

ITBs-this has been shown to give huge performance increases
Mega Squirt-most likely the best engine manegment and a huge following for the kl
Cams-Interprep,Colt, or mike seli on probetalk
Injectors-look into getting bored kl fuel rails to fit nissan injectors
Valve Springs-check out interprep only $200
 
i recently just did another search... i had a website but i lost it.... so im looking for it... its the only one that comes with a MT and a LSD for a reasonable price... so if anyone knows of such a website please let me know
 
just ordered my 8k HiDs and Hydro-Shield for my current CAI cuz it rains too randomly in FL... also real close to buying that AutoX Grille and the JDM Tail lights... i really just got into those... and my car gets fixed on Monday!! and i will be back in style after that.... also wondering if anyone wants to get rid of there blacked out head lights or would like to get paid to black out my head lights... i just dont want my whole house smelling like paint... maybe i can take it to a paint shop... hmm....

I can do your headlights if you want to pay for shipping to Idaho there and back. If you want to save some money just fallow the how to in the how to section and do it at a friends house or garage or something.
 
yea... i really want to... but it feels so good to have my car back after it was in the shop for a whole week... i even walked from the car rental place all the way to the shop because i couldtn wait to get it back...

my HIDs are in and installed... ill take a pic when its dark out

is it me or is everything on the passenger side of the car a giant hassle... i always have troublesome time with it... that side was way too crowded for my hands to do a lot.... and when i put the hids in my foglight... the bolt wouldnt come off and ended up stripping it and forcing me to go to the local hoome improvement store to buy vice grips...but everything ive worked on on the driver side goes well... and my hydrosjield for my CAI came in... going to get the K&N filter cleaner before i put it on though... ummm
im also experimenting with this motor a little more....
i ordered a 4-2-1 header, catless midpipe, and full motor mounts...
so my ride should be a little more fun...
im also heading towards buying an MX6 that has the motor in it already or a MX6 shell so the KL will fit right in... the MX6 will be my drag car... and the MP5 my DD and if i get into AutoX, itll be contrallable...
next should be the underdrive pulley...
i was also deciding on getting those arias pistons from protege garage with the 10:7:1 compression.... that should be some good numbers

anywho... i wonder whatll sound like

better ask mazdaspeed777 to see what his sounds like

ooh im also going to post the damage pics after it was fixed so watch out for that
 
im still planning it... its just that if I buy an MX6 with a KL-ZE, which are pretty rare randomly, i i would definately put the KL in the MP5 and put the maybe even FS-DE stuff in the MX6... but now while im waiting to put in the KL... im trying to have some fun in the FS... i couldnt handle not doing anything to the motor for like another year almost... i had to do somethign to it even though i know i wouldnt get full value back from when i sell the parts...

but yes, just like u MakeMeGoFast... i see a KL in my future

a stupid reason may be that im trying to blow my motor and/or transmission so it forces me to get the KL... but that would be dumb, no?
 
the Mounts came in... oh i didnt say? i got a full set of AWR mounts for a good deal so i got them...... only one of them was used... so we'll see how they feel afterwards i got them on... some shops are saying $180 some are saying $380 for installation WTF... does anybody know where i can get it done cheap somewhere in central florida?
 
the rear is a pain in the ass thats why its so much money
 
do it yourself... that'll be the cheapest way out :)

rear is a pain in the bum, but fairly easy if you remove the intake manifold...
