Big Brakes for CHEAP!

booo....i just ordered the msp rears.....but i may go with ms6 fronts.....and lata on maybe get the rears and sell the ones i got......and

SUBBIN

I'm interested in this as well...it would be nice to upgrade my fronts with 6 pads/calipers/rotors.

hells yeah....and i thought autozone had a good deal with the msp setup to buy....~80 a caliper after core than 30 for each rotor and what ever pads

make sure ya'll paint those calipers before slapping them on

the pic on the first page bothers me... while the extra rotor area would aid in cooling, it doesn't really look like there would be much more pad area, with all that inside area being unused. It seems like thats either the incorrect caliper, or incorrect pad, or i guess both.

Heres a pic from a thread about mazdaspeed6 brakes. You can see that while the caliper by no means extends all the way to the center of the rotor, the pad certainly does:

I'd also be curious how much weight the rotors would add, and if there are any solutions with aluminum hats or anything to keep weight down, or at least the same as the smaller stock rotors.

add weight to the brakes, use lighter wheels lol.

it looks like the first post on these had the wrong pads.

doesnt matter what engine is in the car as long as it is those years and the correct size rotors. It does not throw off your brake balance. noone sells the mazdaspeed 6 brakes except mazda at this point. do not try to order them from rockauto or any other parts store as they are listed incorrectly and you will get the regular mazda 6 brakes. if you do order them from mazda you will have to make sure to order the caliper brackets as they do not come with them.

The caliper on the MazdaSpeed 6 IS different from the regular 6. Now like you said though the caliper is not MUCH larger it's design does make it to receive a larger pad. As for Aluminum hats and all that mess(cause it's simple a mess)...I ran a WilWood setup and the weight was about equal maybe slightly heavier calipers. These brakes are overkill for anyone running NA though. It can stop the car so fast it would take a while for the car to speed back up.

fredo, why would you think that it wouldn't work? how could it lock the rears before the front using exactly is what's on another car??.. is that the mazdaspeed6?? i dont know the damn abrevs or w/e they're called.

MazdaSpeed 6 I don't do the whole MZ3 MZ6 all that other stuff. MS stand for MazdaSpeed to me. lol Rears will lock because the Protege is too late in the back. When you apply a sufficient amount of braking force weight will go to the front and then more than likely the back will lock up.

Maybe those were upgraded pads? Hawks?

Those actually look like stock pads.

interesting... how do you know this?? Did you try and order from rockauto, or what?? Anyone have the part# for ms6 calipers??

EDIT: i decided to quit being lazy, and indeed rockauto shows the same part number for the mazdaspeed6 brakes as the mazda 6S brakes. Thats kind of disappointing. Somehow regular mazda6 brakes are much less appealing than mazdaspeed brakes.

So everyone should autocross...get sponsored by mazdaspeed motorsports and get mean discounts on the Mazdaspeed6 brake set up! lol Thats what im doing. lol

I stopped by my dealer today to see how much they would steal from me for a set of front MS6 calipers, but the parts department was closed. lame.

Does the MS3 have the same brakes as the MS6? If it does that might make it slightly easier to find a set of calipers somewhere.

That is true. Since the MS3 has a longer production run. Bump for more information! lol

i asked my a couple of my buddies this weekend with ms3 about the brakes being the same as the ms6. they are not. i was told the front rotors are 13.2 or something.

i am fairly sure they are different between the speed 3 and speed 6. And yes I did order a set from rock for the speed 6 and ended up with regular calipers lol. But like i said I am EXTREMELY happy with the 07 mazda 6 brakes. They are waaay grabbier than stock.

Try discount auto or just order straight from JDMSam. I priced everything out and still was able to only save a few bucks over what Sam sells them for.
