Big Brakes for CHEAP!

Why dont the M6 calipers work on a 4lug?
I know about rotors that the bolt pattern is different, but whats the difference with the calipers?

Assuming your car is a BJ gen platform the spindles should be identical to the 5 lug cars including the MX6,Probe, 626 and protege.

The only differences are the hub the rotor and the bracket that holds the caliper. The caliper should be the same as any other non speed protege.

So whatever swap you are trying should work just fine as far as caliper/bracket fitment.

To get the rotor to fit you can easily drill the 4x100 pattern your self.

To do a 5 lug conversion all you need are the hubs for any 92-2002 626, 93+ mx6/probe or any 5 lug protege.

You'll need wheels ofcourse.

A rear 5 lug conversion is similar but I dont know if your car has drums or discs, all local 4 lugs are drums.

The point is all you need for a 5 lug conversion is available from a local parts store as they are all wear items.

Yes it is the BJ platform and I have discs in the back, they were standard on all FL models except the 1300ccm engine.

This is great information for a 5 lug conversion!
I'll have to check it out with a friend that has a 626 from 2000. If everything mocks up correctly, I'll start saving for a 5 lug conversion, if not... Trial and error until I can get bigger brakes on a 4 lug :)

long thread, kinda skipped around, but was thinking about upgrading to the 06-07 MZ6 brakes, looking at the specs those rotors are about 8mm wider that the OEM rotors. This would throw my offset off wouldn't it? Currently running 215/40/17 +40 - and i seriously need to roll my fenders...
thanks.

msp front right caliper

theres a lot of threads to read them all i was directed to this thread for caliper replacement... new calipers are around $400 from mazda and theres only a few left and they are all in canada.. my car is currently undrivable with the caliper frozen badly. is there an alturnative to the speed caliper i herd a 626 v6 would fit but i need a def yes before i do it? help

nah. the purchase was a dud.. but i do know how to make it work.. all you have to do is purchase the ms6 ebrake cable to make the rears work. cake!

I am along the same lines of thinking as you.

I was able to source out a set of MS6 rears, and the ebrake cable come out straight up rather than toward the front like the Protege's hence making a slight bend and lengthening the run of the cables. Otherwise the distance from the bracket to the lever are pretty much equal on both.

yeah man. you'll be good to go once you get that. no problem.

Yes specifically 2002 Mazda 626 with the 2.5 v6. I think I paid $50-60 from Pepboys and it was in stock. the only difference is the color of the caliper.

i have a friend offering me a set of rear rotors and calipers from an 03-05 mazda 6s for cheap. are they any better than factory msp stuff?
