Big Brake Kits

:
2001 323 Astina SP20 (P5)
I wanna get a big brake kit for my 5, but I would like to keep the ABS. I know that in every day driving conditions the ABS will not allow the new brake kit to work to it's full potential.

My question is, does anyone know if ABS be recalibrated to new settings (brakes, tyres, pads)???

hey

yeah any big brake kit will keep the abs...changing the rotors and calipers wont effect the abs in any way.

but the problem with going for a big brake kit is that the car is capable of greater stopping power and therefore can stop in a shorter distance...but the delima is abs. abs doesnt know that you have a kick ass brake kit that can stop at 1.5G, it still thinks that you have the oem brakes and they are only rated to 1.2G (guess ofcourse)....and because of this, the abs will only allow the car to slow at 1.2G...so 0.3G of braking power is wasted by the abs....hense my q.

does anyone know if our abs can be recalibrated for bigger brakes to take advantage of that wasted 0.3G?????

and just before someone asks, i'm making up the G figures to use an example.

The sensor for the ABS is on the drive shaft. The BBK will not alter teh ABS controller in any way. It doesn't "know" the capabilities of your brakes, it just regulates pressure in the event that the driveshaft stops turning. I am putting 12" brakes on my MSP soon.

Hmm....next meet I go to I'll ask the owner of Rotora myself if he'll be interested in making some Big Brake Kits for the P5. I think he'll need a bigger backing though.

mrpopnfresh, does THE owner of rotora go to the rife meets? i didn't know that he did. i know that ppl sponsored by rotora go there... if he does, that rs with Team Rotora all over it must be his?

you know, to fix your abs problem, you could go to the abs fuse and remove it. that would cause an abs light. BUT you can do this. remove the abs fuse and wire it to a switch inside the cabin. make sure to put an inline fuse holder to protect the abs from shorts and stuff. with the switch you can turn your abs on and off.

the switch would be in series between each end of the fuse. one wire out of one side of the fuse holder. with the fuseholder inline and then to the switch. from the switch to the opposite side of the fuse holder.

Yeah, I dunno if the owner drives the Blue WRX or the silver one. I just know he is one of them because my cousin usually goes to the meets with his WRX and both of thier girlfriends know eachother. I was also gonna find out if they would be willing to make quality CF pieces for all types of proteges. The worst he could say is no, but hey; nothing ventured, nothing gained right.

We are a distributor for Rotora and I have been in contact With Loren and Richie about producing a kit for the proteges. Our concern was that there wouldn't be enough interest. I will talk to them again and see what's up.

Things to consider, one piece or two piece rotor.

I'm currently offerring the club guys promotional pricing on their slotted rotors and porterfield pads. Shipment arrives today.

What's the price on those? I need brakes!

Sorry Njaremka,

The shipment is arriving today. SS lines, and rotors. I will be placing the ads tonite.

Thanks, RIshie

What's the price on the lines and rotors? Are there front and rear pads available?

Yeah, I was concerned about the same thing. It's hard for a company to just start producing products for our cars because they would need a bigger audience to cater to. Currently we seem to be only a few Protege Owners that can and are willing to purchase BBKs. These kits are usually expensive and most people would rather put on bodykits, add ICE, or get more HP for their cars.

hey

yeah i have tried emailing stoptech, ap racing just to name a few and they all dont answer the question. it's quite anoying.

dont get me wrong, bigger brakes will help for sure, but not as much as they could if the abs was recalibrated. but afaceinthecroud, that's a good idea about switch. thanks! that way i can turn it off on the track and flick it back on while daily driving...hmmm....now you got me thinking!

Rische,

Do you know if the rear rotors are vented, or solid. I was on rotoras web site and the rear rotors for the P5 were more expensive than the fronts!

Thanks,
Carlos

Precision Brakes also makes a few different brake kits for the Protege. Their prices are pretty competitive too.

We are a PBC distributor. LEt me know if you want any of the brake options for the protege.

The rear rotors are not vented on the rotoras.

Thanks, RIshie
