Alright so i've noticed lately i;ve been getting alot of loud pop like backfires between shifts lately. Its actuallyonly backfires once between shifts but its loud like potatoe gun like. And i;ve been noticing when i get on it it cuts out and picks up which i've read about and people say that you can stretch the coils or something? How or where to find the coils to stretch would be nice (yes im that retarted) but as for the backfiring? why all im running is HKS VTA, MS CAI, and CPmid-pipe

you're running a little richer than normal, happens to me to me too
i find it funny when i backfire going pass other cars, imagine just chilling in traffic and then out of nowhere POW !!! lol
but the difference is im running the forge BPV

Have you checked the valve for leaks? We had a few go out that leaked which would result in the car running a bit rich.

VTA is your mistake. Stop trying to be a road thug and put on a BPV and your backfireing will stop as most of your other problems. VTA is a no-no on the MS3 unless you can tune for it, which we can't currently.

Put your factory BPV back on till you can get an aftermarket BPV like the Forge. Or buy the Recerc kit for your HKS.

its vta, i have mine runnig vta for about 2weeks now, pops sometimes and stumbles occasinally. U gota shift fast at low rpms because they drop fast since the air isnt recirc. Pops sound cool tho, so does vta, but im going to switch back to recirc. I go back and forth every few weeks between the setups

actually thats my bad its been running recirculating for about a month i was running it VTA but it still backfires and sputters so.....HAH now what?

so i just went and ripped on it with recirculating hose on and then VTA just to double check and still backfires (fuoops)but stuttering was random in different gears with different setups. does anyone have info on the coil spring stretching?????

My bet is a leak. Check all your connections and the one to really check is the Turbo inlet connection. Follow your MS CAI all the way to the Turbo which is on the back of your motor/bottom. Check the connection where it connects and also check all your other connections. Be sure to check the tightness of the clamps and not just look at it and go "It looks fine" Actually put a wrench on there and tighten them all. Just because they LOOK fine does not mean its tight.

There are 2 threads from Driver311 about the mod. Search them he is the OP. I did it when I installed colder plugs. I haven't driven the car yet. I basically gentally pulled the boots off the coils and stretched the springs to be 1/4" longer at rest.

yea the stutter issue shouldn't really be cus of ur vta. ive had my hks bov vta since like 2 weeks after i bought it and it has never stuttered, only after i installed the tbe. after that tho i just stretched the springs a little and no more stutter. and back firing doesnt only deal with vta, i pop almost always at wot in high rpms while still in gear. only problem i have now is lack of fuel if i change the boost any or cold weather. running 16 psi atm tho and everything runs great. the leak theory could definately be a possibility as when i originally followed hoses and tightened everything 2 months ago i found a couple that needed a bit of tightening.

Road thug huh?

i have been running VTA with my HKS for about a month now and every once in a while i get a pop at low RPM s**** but no stutter or any other issues

what you need is the one step colder plugs gapped at .030 and you wont have this problem anymore... before i put mine in i could never even give it HALF throttle without it popping and banging and all that good stuff. it runs really good now.. even with the mods i got ms cai, 2nd cat delete, atp bcd, turboxs bc,hks bov, shifter bushing, im peaking at 21psi and holding at 17 an 18psi, stretched coil mod that didnt help me at all, running in 12 and below temps out side and i still dont get popping and stuff anymore..

LOL - I say that because the ONLY reason to do a VTA on the MS3 is because you like the sound and/or want other people to hear the sound and don't really care how it hurts the car....AKA Road Thug where the bling bling is more important. Kinda like those guys that think their car looks really cool with those huge ass 30's on thier Malabu (pow), when in fact it looks stupid as hell.

VTA is not good on this car as it was designed for Recirc. There have been many posts about the side effects of VTA on this car. Mostly popping, bad idle etc.

you need to do it right and go to recirc. the pops you hear are raw fuel sputtering out of your exhaust, and robbing you of power, and slowing down your spool up times. VTA is a HORRIBLE thing to do to this car.
