AWR Mounts vs. Stock Mounts

can the rear one be done easier if the car is on a lift??

Definitely... I personally would not attempt it unless you were changing the clutch or pulling the engine out. It's a real b**** otherwise I hear!

what'd that mount cost?

i cant find one... course im not looking all that hard, where did you get yours, linux?

yup got mine from Mitch also. I did mine with jack and jackstands. and two of my buddies. it took all three of us about 3-4 hours. with smoke/beer/store to get locktight/ breaks.

I know you can buy the front mount for like $60. Is this worth it if I don't plan to drop in the rear mount anytime soon? Excuse me for not knowing or asking a dumb question but does one mount receive more stress than the other? If I put in just the front and leave the rear stock is that going to add a lot of stress to the rear?

If your a cheap lazy bastard like me and don't want to change your mounts even if they're coming apart, do like me and pound some wine corks into the mount ring. It ain't pretty and probably don't last long, but it has worked for me. You'll need to cut the corks in half length wise first.

This is a 50 year old redneck used car lot fix that works.

Well, I must say what a difference these mounts make (noisewise too)!!! The shifting is more precise, and when you tap the throttle, it goes! Engine is so much more responsive!!!

i can agree with you, and i only have the front one in. The engine lash is gone. very nice feel when you step on it.

Anyone out there ask a mechanic how much they'd charge to install the rear mount? I can handle the front but I don't have the time or the right tools for the job on the rear.

hey guys, i ahve a seriosu problem, at 26,700 miles my mp3 broke the mounts (or at least teh dealer says that two are broken) and they wanna put the stock ones back in or make me pay $370 to install the awr's, anybody have any ideas? im about to say screw mazda all together and have an aftermarket shop install them.

buy the AWRs ($125), ask them how much it would be just to install the mounts for you. If it's too much, ask them how much to install just the back and do the front one yourself.
of the $370, how much is the labor?

Mine should be in by the time I get back to work today.:)
I got a really good deal on the labor!;) Hopefully those take care of my squeeling noise when I take off in first gear!

So the AWR urethane frount and rear mounts that i see on the protege5online site will fit the msp?. I'm just tryin to double check before i purchase, because it did not specify.

will someone write up a how to on this?
Jack up car
Support engine
Remove stock mounts
Install new mounts
Let engine rest on mounts
Lower car off jack stands

Enjoy!

:D Sorry, couldn't help it. . .I wish I had taken more pictures, but I didn't. It isn't that hard (the front is super simple) that back is just very hard to get to, but it still is only 4 bolts to remove and put back in once you get to it!
