Quick question, will the AWR MAZDASPEED Rear Suspension Kit
from **********, remove the dreaded klunk noise ????

Really! No clunk huh? It would be nice to beef up the rear suspension and have no clunk. Does anyone else on the boards have these and dont have the clunk?

I got rid of my klunk when I got updated bushings under warranty from the dealer. I can't remember the part # now, but it wasn't just a replacement.

I'd be surprised if it doesnt' come backe, but I am 8 months without clunk.

Sorry to say, but it'll be back.

RocketR2.. I heard that the klunk comes back even after the AWR change over. The klunk has everything to do with where the rear bushings are located and nothing to do with the bushings themselves.

I believe it gets rid of the clunk because you replace the sway bars. The bushings on the racing beat sway bar is what clunks. I dont think AWR bushings would clunk

H&R sway bar bushings has a extra layer or teflon or soemthign to keep friction low.

R these the ones that have the grease nipples?

The origin of the dreaded klunk.....

When the suspension travels it pushes down on the end of the sway bar (as we all know) In the MSP, the bushings are located inwards, which allows the bar to bend. If the bushings were located at the end of the sway bar, the bar would twist as its designed to.

So in the MSP, the bar is bending which puts strain on the bushings and slowly stretches the hole. Eventually this hole becomes large enough to allow the bar to bounce when the suspension travels. (KLUNK)

With AWR or anything else, all you are doing is temporarily eliminating the klunk. In time those AWR bushings will be stretched enough to allow the klunk to come back.
Some people hear a squeek, and you will get that with any bushing sway bar set up. All it takes is some grease to eliminate the squeek, but you can't get rid of the klunk with grease.

Quiet!

Isn't the clunk MSP specific? I've never heard of a lowered P5 with clunk issues. So Brian, not suprising you don't have a clunk.

I did, it was the endlinks on the 21mm AWR.

The Rubber fixed it up well...

I think you may have had a different klunk... If you replaced the end link bushings and eliminated the klunk, its definately not the same klunk...

The MSP / MP3 klunk is from the sway bar bushings wearing out.

That sucks but should be an easy swap...

Ya the swap is easy, about 30 minutes including jacking - blocking and clean up but the bad thing is the cost of replacement.

Some speed owners go back to Mazda and get replaced under warranty but that requires about an hour wait in the shop & travel time. I find this option a pain because I go through bushings fast. I have 35,000km, about 25,000 miles and I am on my 3rd set with my 4th waiting in my garage. So far I have gotten all my bushings free rom Mazda under warranty.

Personally I would rather have a fix for the klunk (like the Delsing klunk bracket) and know that my bushings will last 100,000 + miles and my rear sway bar will perform the way it's suppose to.

evolv: Where do you go for the bushings? Also, do you just tell them that you have clunk and that you'll replace the bushings yourself? Just wondering if you get any hassles.

Too bad that Dave (Delsing) got out of business b/c his kit really took care of my clunk. :) Now it's the subwoofer rack that took over! :(
