Average dealer trade in?

FWIW, when i tried to trade my 2000 ES, dealer brought out the 'wholesale' price for the car and offered $4500 for it. I'm selling it *hopefully* privately this Wednesday @ $6700.

the dealer WILL try to screw you on the trade, regardless how good of a shape your car is in.

Oh they always offer less than what you can get at a private sale. All cars regardless of how well they look are given at the "good" price. Literally when you drive the car off the lot it goes from excellent to good. Only time I saw someone get more was my friend and his AE86 which he got 3500 from the dealer with over 190k on it. Course people were offering 6k at the track but that is still a hell of a price from a dealer.

I still owe about 10k on it, so as long as I come close or match it then that would be cool. 1-2k upside down is ok though will probably just keep the car a little bit more.

I love it, though now have this urge to get something else.

hey man its joe. I don't know if you ever met drew, but he is working on selling his p5. It's an 03.5 manual in silver with most of the options, 13k miles. Carmax offered him 10k for it.

hit me up we'll go rag some test drive cars :D

Dealers are hungry for buisness right now so you should easily be able to get $10K with a good amount off of the WRX.
Astral went looking for an RX8 and they would only offer him 7k for his 03 LX in great shape with 63k in it. They kill you on trade in values......he went to a couple dealers, too.

like i said, dealers use the 'wholesale value' as basis for their trade-in appraisal, NOT the KBB/NADA book value.

However, they do sell their used cars at or near KBB dealer used car value, so you can see the KILLING they can make PER CAR, if they decide to sell it themselves...

It all depends on how willing the dealer is to really deal with you and the selling price of the new car. If they are already taking off a ton on the new car and giving you a low rate, your not going to get much on a trade in.

By the way, the trade in value on a 2003 protege with 65000 miles is only $6500 (KBB). So he was getting reasonalbe offers. The massive rebates mazda was giving buyers on the protege, killed the resale of the cars. Not ot mention the coninued rebates on the 3 aren't helping.

Ya unfortunely our cars sold pretty damn welll for a variety of reasons. A good idea to is to take a look at the used cars a dealer is selling. See what they are going for in reference to what they are asking. They often simply call up their used car segment to see what they are selling similar cars for. I'm not to concern with getting a super trade in value, but least come close to what I owe on it. With that I may just wait till summer time where the car will real close to being paid off, course at that point I may just keep it and buy a little toy car (MS Mx-5).

dude i want to know what dealer u went to get anumber like 9-11k cuz when i was lookin at the 6's they only offered me 8k for my 03 protege with 14k miles on it i laughed in his face and told him he was kidding and like afew mine later he said 10kand thats the highest ass wipes nepoc knows my car is VERY clean im to anal to have a messy car needless to say i left BTW the dealership was gallo in worcester DONT GIVE THEM BUISNESS!!!!!

If your talking to me, it was Subaru of Nashua. They gave me about that when I got the STi. The car had about 10K on it. Like I said though, if you get a decent trade in, your not going to get alot off of the car your buying. That was my case.

Well going to the dealer this weekend probably just to see what they think they can give. Also going to look around the local paper to see what other used P5s are going for.
The more I look the more I like the Mazda6 wagon, for some reason I love wagons. Sedans just feel to enclosed to me..

i know they wouldnt give me crap for my 5 trade in like 8400.00 then it had im thinking 44xxx miles or so... anyway good luck on your next purchase..

You should get a wrx wagon then ;)

FYI rob, Mazda is running a $3750 cash back rebate on 2004 Mazda6 wagons, so you just may be able to pick one up for a great price!

Ya heard that on the radio going into work this morning, plus other rebates..worth checking out. Plus I get a college grad discount that I didn't get when I got my P5 since I still had a few classes to go. Plus this dealership normally has good prices.
