Anyone Whose Cell Phone Text Downloading Works as Advertised?

2014 Mazda CX-5 GT
I picked up my CX-5 this week and have tried the text download function with 3 different phones (Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Apple Iphone 4S) and have had no success in having text messages downloaded from phone to CX-5 as they are received by the cell phone.

The system downloaded past messages from both Samsungs when I was pairing and setting up the system but won't display new text messages on head unit screen, as they are received. The head unit indicates that there is a new text message and asks if I want to download it; to which I indicate 'yes'; however, after 20-30 seconds, it says the download failed and to try again later.

I was aware of this issue before I bought the car; however, I am due for a cell phone upgrade and was wondering about which device to buy in order to have phone link to car as Mazda advertised (receiving and responding to texts from CX-5 head unit).

If anyone has a phone that DOES work as advertised, would you please post the name of the device and the operating system version number you are using.

Thanks.

Interesting, my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 on stock 4.3 works fine, as did my Galaxy Nexus running AOSP 4.4.2.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. Receiving and Sending Text messages used to work til my phone upgraded to 4.3 (from 4.2). Making calls still works and I still get a notifications that I have received a new text message. But when I press download message, after about 30 seconds it says failed and to try later.

Someone already wrote up a short note on this (can't find it) - what it boils down to:

1. Remove the device from your BT list in the car and turn the car off.
2. Remove any traces for the car from your phone bluetooth connection.
3. Pair your phone again with the car - also make sure that you acknowledge on the phone / device that you allow the car to access your phone always (and save).
4. Download phone book

Should work - tested it with my SG4 with 4.3 and works.
