partial throttle to half throttle, at 4k-5k rpms i hear a buzzing sound. this happens in all gears when i shift but mainly in 2nd and 3rd. i am running higher boost also.

i went to mazda this morning and took my mbc out. the service rep went driving with me and i could hear it, but very very faintly. so faint that the service rep said that all she could hear was my engine rev and that i am supposed to shift before 4k anyway...
it's much more noticeable with upped boost. anyone know where this sound is coming from?

this might help: i was running my car with the common cracked intercooler pipe for awhile without knowing. it wasn't until i started hearing a high pitched whistle when i was worried and brought it to mazda. they told me it was my intercooler pipe and they replaced it. but after that, i put my mbc back in and that's when i started hearing this sound.

i really want to show this service rep the sound but it seems that i can only make it obvious with the mbc in. what am i supposed to do now? she said that she cant do anything unless she hears the noise.

Go to another dealer...if they refuse to do any work because they can't hear the sound, then do you really want them working on your car?

well, how am i supposed to prove something when i can't make the sound as obvious unless i put my MBC in?

it's not the exhaust because i can hear the sound in the front. the sound seems to be coming from under the hood. i actually thought that maybe it was my filter so i checked it out to make sure it was secure and it was. i was thinking of just taking my intake off and putting on a diff one. i am running the INJEN prototype (modified). i am running out of options.

The tube that goes into the fender could it be rubbing and making the sound. Also my heatshield on my car came loose and created a rattle, and also my hood has the same deal also.

hmm, would that rubbing make that buzzing sound though? i put a rubber ring around the hole where the piping goes in.
if i just floor the car in all gears the buzzing doesn't come on, it's only at partial throttle. also, while i'm running at higher boost, i remember that the sound comes in at about 5lbs of boost and i can control the sound by going from partial throttle to half and back to partial.

hmm theres quite a number of things it could be. I would go around the motor, check for loose metallic items, checking things like the heatshields, turbo area, and anything else metal.

Does it make the sound if you just rev the engine to 4k? If it happens when you aren't moving it is more likely that it is something vibrating. If so, you can get somebody to listen while you hold at 4-5k until they locate it, or if you can hear it, get them to hold the throttle.

"Go to another dealer...if they refuse to do any work because they can't hear the sound, then do you really want them working on your car?"

What do you want them to do, tear into the car without knowing what their looking for? or where they should be looking?

I think its funny that the salesperson told you that you're supposed to shift before 4k. that may be true in the sense of being nice to your car but wtf does she think the redline is there for. its not up to her to decide when you shift. I'm sorry I can't give you any advice but serious, what a b**** (not derogatory to women just the general derogatory sense).

actually i drove to pick up a pizza and tried to recreate the problem. it seemed to come on in 3rd gear more than this morning in 2nd gear.

it won't make the sound when i am just revving it, the car has to be moving. this isn't a metal sound either. it sounds more like a farting sound or a sound caused from air. again, this sound appeared AFTER they replaced my intercooler pipe.

i remember the technician telling me that since the intercooler pipe was broken that there was a air leak, therefore causing my turbo to have to work harder. ?? does this sound right? if so, i hope my turbo isn't b0rked. anyway, i guess i'll have to look under the hood. i'm not quite sure what i'm supposed to be looking for. i keep thinking that it may have to do with the INJEN i am using cuz it's a prototype (modified) and not the final. but then again, i've had that INJEN in my car for the longest time.

thx guys for you input.

mine makes the same sound. starting happening a couple thousand miles after i put on the injen. no clue what it is. i thought it was a leaky bpv. i dunno if i'm losing boost or not though cause i don't have a boost gauge yet. hasn't affected my performance any though, least not any that i can tell.

i have a boost gauge and i dont see any loss in boost.

k guys, i fixed the problem. i ended up uninstalling my injen to check everything like the piping and filter. everything seemed ok.

i reached inside the turbo with my fingers to see if it was spinning freely. it did, but i heard a very very faint ringing sound. should the turbo spin freely without making any sounds or is what i heard normal??

anyway, i ended up reinstalling everything back and made sure all hoses were tight. after that i went for a drive and the sound was completely gone. i am pretty happy that i was able to fix it when mazda didn't even want to try.

I kept hearing a rattling noise coming from around my intake the other night... It was bad too......couldnt figure it out for the life of me.. Finally i looked down into the open area infront of the fender well beneath my overflow tank and there was my flashlight i lost when i was reinstalling my Intercooler... lmao... Im such a fuktard! (drunk)
