Anyone has pics of shifter for the 2003 automatic P5???

damn..i wish i got the 2003 one
=P...but i already have the car when there's aren't tons of people got it...like right now

If you're upset about the transaxle...

The 2003 package prices are absolutely wonderful. The Moonroof & indash 6 CD chager package is $690, the two options were $1,200 in 2002. Also, ABS & Side Airbags is $490, down from $800 in 2002. Carpeted floor mats are standard now, but the base price went up the $80. Full leather seats and doors stayed at $490 as compared to the $1,500 my son just paid for leather in his 2002 Stratus R/T. Do you think you can install the new shifter for the automatic 2003, to my 2002 P5. Those are kick ass looking, and i want it now!

No you can't. Because your 2002 Auto has an overdrive button. The 2002.5 and 2003 shifters are gated, meaning they don't have one.

2002.5 Sport auto Shift Knob

Has anyone put an aftermarket knob on the sport auto? I was just curious what might fit. The shift knob sems very tall.

Thanks.

dont know about the us but the new 2003 mp5 in canada comes with smoked headlamps, ricer side markers, slightly different 5 spoke rims, ugly ass shifter, and i believe slighty different interior. but abs and airbags are standard.

only options we have is ac, sunroof. the price of the 2003 is a few hundred bucks more then the 2002.

i dont know if this is true but i heard that the auto version is also a tiptronic or whatever they call it. honda calls it tiptronic. its like u can shift when ever u want but with no clutch. it may also only be 4 gears not 5. or if u want to u can put it into auto.

The automatics now are called Sport Shifts. Yes, you can choose to "manually" shift gears in the manu-mode. It's just like putting the car in D3, D2, or D1 in a regular auto. Also, the Sport shift still has only 4 gears to play with. The sportshift does shift down when you you're deccelerating at a certain rate (i.e. quick stop) and prevents redlining by up shifting, if for whatever reason you forget to up-shift.

I would liek to clarify things.

I have this manumatic. It does NOT upshift or downshift automatically. Nor does it do anything at redline other than bounce there. It is four speed and is great for quick deceleration. It is NOT like D3-D1 as you talk about. It is similiar to the Acura TL (another car I've owned).

OKay I may have been wrong about the system upshifting automatically, I haven't taken the motor up to redline yet (still breaking in). But I do know that the system does automatically downshift when you brake firmly (i.e. when you're going down a steep hill or making a quick stop). When I was referring to the D1 and D2, I guess I was referring to the old auto system in my '83 Civic which actually held gears, meaning that if you were on D2, it will not be able to automatically downshift to D1 if it needed to. I just realized that the auto systems of today would still be able to downshift when needed.

I have tried and tried again (just a few minutes ago) what you said about it automatically downshifting on hard braking. Well if you call going 55 to 0 in 3rd or 4th and having it downshift on hard braking and if not screeching - it does not. At stop I am still in 3rd or 4th.

Intersting. My 2002.5 P5 ALWAYS goes into first when I am using the +/- and come to a complete stop. I am easy on brakes and come to a smooth stop. I have not had to do a sudden 50-0 stop since I got the car.

Wow, that's odd. I know that coming to a standstill in manumatic mode, the system goes down to 1 by itself. You may want to ask the service department about this. I wonder what other's have experiences so far? Inputs?

I have the Sport Auto, and so far, it's been fun. It takes a little bit to get used to the small delay between hitting the +/- and the gear shift, but other then that it's great. I haven't had it shift up or down unless I told it too, but it always returns to 1st when I come to a stop.

i'll clear this up

if u slow down below 22mph, it automatically puts car in 3rd

if u slow down below 6mph, it automatically puts car in 1st

this is good, cause u don't wanna start off in 4th gear on accident after coming to stop

from a stop, u can start off in 1st or 2nd gear, just like with manual

it is only 4speed, not 5 speed (03 mazda 6 will have option on higher end model of 5speed autostick)

it will not upshift at any point

if u are going too fast, it won't let u downshift (ie won't let u downshift to 3rd if ur going 100 mph

Ditto

I love it (other that it's bassackwards from my old CL Type S mannymatic... hard to break old habits!!) :D

It will bounce off the rev limiter if you let it, and goes to 1st gear when you come to a complete stop.

Great for daily driving in city traffic... one of the reasons I got rid of my 5 spd 02 WRX Wagon (amongst many other reasons...)

Jim,

In terms of handling on dry pavement, how does the P5 compare to your WRX? Why exactly did you trade in your WRX? (I apologize if this was discussed earlier.) Thanks.

Not a problem. I'd say the P5 handles damn near as good as the rex in the dry. I've yet to really push the P5 in the wet (rained all day today, what a mess.)

On the WRX, I had a sedan 20mm rear sway (stock wagon is 17mm,) Kartboy solid drop links, Cusco CF rear upper, and Cusco 4 point front under sub brace. That's a far cry from stock, trust me. :)

I still say the P5 can hold it's own, right from the factory. I'd love to see more mods for this car, as the WRX world is insane for upgrades (of which I'm a true fanatic on any car I own.) :D

As for why I got rid of it, I'm not going to go there in depth (I'll bite my tongue for the most part.) Excessive oil / coolant consumption, cold clutch shudder, and a piss poor SOA (Subaru of America) local rep are my main reasons for dumping it. Althought the dealer was cool as hell, the rep had the final say on warranty work. If you look at my web site photo's of the rex, you'll see why he had issues with my car. Yada, yada, yada. Water under the bridge.

LOVE THE P5. Period. Just needs an FM turbo kit and I'm set. This may take awhile, though!! :D

Jim

Edit: Sorry for getting off topic here folks!!! :) I think a pic for the original Q would be in order here....
